Asper's guarentee seems odd..
http://www.winnipegsun.com/sports/football/2009/04/03/8986021-sun.html
"
Asper is committing $10 million -- the price of the team, if you will -- as "insurance" should his plan fail, or should he pass away without a secession plan.
In that event, the franchise would fall under the control of a community board, which would use the funds to either find a new owner or have it revert to community ownership.
"

I dont get it..so he is putting up all his shares in Global???

What a Face

Deank wrote:.There was a user on the other site that had a whole actual community owned plan as well where "commoners" are allowed to purchase shares in the team. That was given no thought. The bomber board seems to have some huge love in with Asper.

How does this work? Do you own a share that you could actually sell at a later date for a different price? Higher or lower price? What if the bombers go on a losing money streak, as a 'part owner' am i on the hook for a loss?? or do they go to the goverment?

Doesn't the 'community' own the team now, why should we have to repurchase it to get 'shares' which probably aren't shares at all other than feel good type shares for something 'we' already own? Or am I looking at it wrong?

I well remember that proposal. It was Mr. Nobody that put that little gem together. He had some creative ideas. Such as tax deductible shares (RRSP???).

If a bunch of people buy the Bombers, is it still 'publically owned'?

Didn't he have a concern about that term?

This is the 'cheap' 200m version...

Winnipeg Citizens Stadium Seating Cost - Fractional Ownership
Seat Type Cost per Seat Units Available Total Raised
GOLD 10,000.00 7500 56,250,000.00
BLUE 4,000.00 15000 60,000,000.00
YELLOW 2,500.00 20000 40,000,000.00
EndZone 750.00 1000 750,000.00
Corners 1500.00 4000 6,000,000.00
Lower Corporate Suite 250,000.00 30 7,500,000.00
Upper Corporate Suite 125,000.00 50 6,250,000.00
Total Raised 47580 Units205,500,000.00

Are there 30 companies in winnipeg prepared to donate a quarter million each for nothing in returnand 50 125k, and 7500 residents handing 10 thousand dollars, and 15 thousand residents handing over 4000 thousand dollars?

Dont get me wrong, community ownership sounds nice, but are manitobas handing over 200 million out of our personal wallets and company coffers for 'symbolic ownership' that we have already right now?

Nice idea, and nice site, good on Mr Nobody for coming forward with a plan, but deank are you suggesting this is one of those 'good plans' that no one is listening to??

Whose the first on here to hand over the ten grand?? I dont have it.

My guess is that proposal isnt being taken seriously because that 200m could never be raised.

If 200m is being handed over, its probably going to be from a large contributor, and that contributor will probably want to own the team 'for real' instead of 'symbolically' which if i were to hand over 200m or even 10 thousand, i'd want a real interest in it.

no I am saying there are other alternatives out there that once me Asper was given the keys, the other ideas just stopped developing.

bottom line is, the moment Asper's idea of rebuilding on site and demaning 80 million from the government fell through... the deal to build a new stadium should have been opened back up to other proposals so that other proposals could have been more fully developed.

Just build the goddamn thing before the same bunch that tried to hug the old Eatons store get involved. If they have a protest and stand in front of the bulldozers, just make sure there's a plaque in the end zone with their names.

I think the church Calvary Temple did this type of thing about 15 years ago, where 1000 people donated a 1000 dollars and got a 'foot square' of the church, not literally but figuratively, and they ended up raising a million dollars to build the new building.

It took quite a while to raise that million dollars, years in fact i believe.

How many years will it take to raise 200 million from winnipegs population?

Mr. Nobodys idea isn't all that new.

Not a fan of governement sponsered projects, but the government is there to do the things we as citizens cannot right, so maybe this is a project for the mb/wpg governments and large contributors to fund?

I believe almost every stadium is built with some level of government funding.

And for the dome crowd... Look at Minneapolis. I understand they are building THREE new stadiums to replace the Homerdome.

Guess what? I believe none will have a roof. Take that you pansy "we must have a dome" wimps.

heh.. thats only the sask cheerleaders... LOL I remember from the grey cup game here in the peg.. the loudest cheer during the whole game was when the Sask cheerleaders wripped off their warm clothes and danced in regular cheerleader wear. Awesome!
it would be very nice to have a dome for the reason of having the extra super big concerts come through that want to play to more then the current MTS centre holds and need to be inside..

then again.. as several people can attest to one of the best rock concerts ever in the peg was held at the current open air stadium..

quick what band was that concert!
