Disagree. Lot's of people smarter than myself have given this some thought.
Probably similar words were said about the Long Gun Registry.
Trust government. Especially when Gary Doer is involved.

The Gun Registry was not billed as an investment, or a money-maker.

It was billed as a "Safety" program, which (like most of them) do not work...as they are designed to control people...and the only ones who actually follow them are those who were not a risk to begin with.

Your mother wear's army boots.
umm.. she might???

but really what thought?

Leo says.. hey a got a great idea.. lets build a new stadium on headingly.. bombers say...hmm nice idea but we are not really looking.
Asper says hey lets build on site.. one section at a time and I get retail.. and I want a crap load of money from the goverment.. and I get the team. Bombers say..we are listening..

Leo says. tell you what. you keep the retail area. you keep the team. give me the same money that asper was looking for and I will build a brand new stadium, new hotel and new retail on land I already own in St B.
Bombers say.. we like Asper better. even though he wants more and the idea is not nearly that great. ( paraphrase )

Asper says no wait! Lets build in Point Douglas.. tear down some homes.. move some roads, build a massive mother lover of a building.. include an "urban oasis" ( oh whats that I did not get teh pool money?? no matter I will get more gov money and build a bigger one anyway.frick the winner of the pool money).. I get the polo park land to do whatever I want.
Bombers say oh yeah even better lets go with that.
PUBLIC SAYS frick YOU!..
Asper and bombers go.. oh well umm we were just shooting ideas around.. hey how about U of M... yeah and we will ask for less money and umm do other stuff.. yeah yeah

where is the well thought out thought process again?

I admit I'm not completely aware of all the nooks and crannies details, but I do know that plans get ammended, ideas get thrown around, and things changes, thats part of thinking things out.

Making a preliminary plan, and sticking with it come hell or high water is the opposite of a project coming to life.

Seldom, very rarely I would say, it the first draft of a plan the final execution.

I totally agree.. but when ideas change that much... how come other players with different better, lest taxpayer costly ideas are not allowed to come forward?

Exactly cc. As for thought I can assure you significantly greater thought went into any and all plans. Because the entire process was not conducted for all the world to see does not mean serious considered thought did not go into this.

when the bomber board admits it is biased and only even entertained ideas from Asper and decides to actually open it up to fair competition? That would be a good time to end it, you know so that we can get good value for our dollar?

Asper's claim to it should have ended the EXACT moment anything other then his original idea was considered, He should have said you know what,. Its a bad Idea I came up with, I think everyone should go back to the drawing board and get to resubmit plans. OR he should have implemented his plan without the insane amounts of government money he was DEMANDING

QUIT YELLING AT ME!

Trouble is Deank we really don't know what went on behind closed doors at the Bomber board do we? We can speculate all we want.

Asper's very first stadium drawing was the most compelling to date. Not sure why that is not going forward. Then Leo submitted his ideas. Do you know why that was never entertained? It was compelling as well. I loved the look of the Pointe Douglas venture. That was never realistic.

Last, I think the University location is ideal. I reserve judgment on the look and amenities of the new facilities until I see them.

What I find hillarious, and quite disengenious, is part of the deal guarantees that The Winnipeg Blue Bombers Football Club will remain in Winnipeg.

Where the frick else are they going to go???

Do you think that, say Thunder Bay, will ever be interested in sporting a team called The Winnipeg Blue Bombers???

Part of the smoke, or perhaps one of the mirrors, imho.

Since .5 rounds up to 1, does that mean a MAJORITY of Winnipeggers are against it, Deank? And for GOM, does that mean the MAJORITY of Winnipeggers are for it?

hehe the number keeps swinging back and forth from yes to know as more people vote. I suspect the yes's will end having this one by about 68% or more

Let's hope the stadium gets built, and USED by the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.
Let's hope the new owner knows what he is doing and doesn't sell the team to some tycoon south of the border...
Let's hope it doesn't end up like a sink hole...
It will be good for the U of M, but it will be hard to get capacity crowds in there.
The BRT won't help much, as the crowds won't wait hours until they finally manage to hop onto and into a bus...
I saw the Freep videos and didn't like the way they were, sort of, grinning, smirking, or forcing themselves to be happy about it. Just my impression, what do you think about their speeches?

Beautiful looking facility. Looks like it has some cover over the seats.
