GRANDE PRAIRIE,Alta. - Three of the four women's curling teams to claim direct berths to the 2009 Canadian Olympic Trials in Edmonton are established.

Joining the two initial qualifiers - Jennifer Jones of Winnipeg and Shannon Kleibrink of Calgary - is Cheryl Bernard of Calgary. That trio will be joined by either Stefanie Lawton of Saskatoon or Kelly Scott of Kelowna, B.C.

I watched Jennifer Jones and her team defeat Kleibrink yesterday. They did not look very good doing it. And after watching the ladies and Martin's mens team perform at the recent world championships Canada will be very lucky to gold medal at the Vancouver winter Olympics. The women might not even medal.

There is time to rectify this. Appoint the teams now. Pay them to work full time at curling like the Chinese men and women and the Scottish men do now.

Plan a challenging schedule of games against Canada's very best teams and practise practise practise from now until the Olympics. Else Canadians will be very disappointed...

Oh, and don't allow other national teams to practise and play in Canada either.

Yeah. That's the ticket.

Yes I think they need to take a break from the game as they have played alot of games this year . Maybe take some time to regroup and do something different , then come back more focused .

I heard the Martin team being interviewed on CBC yesterday. One of the guys said they played well over 100 games this year. And they are already playing the best competion in the curling world every week-end.
I think the problem will be the teams that Canada does send to the Olympics may be just to worn out from the dog-fight just to get to the Olympics in the first place.

The issue is practise as opposed to games. This is what the Chinese have done. They practise several hours daily and play a few games. We play ton's of games and practise very little.

Then they have their day jobs. The Chinese have no such distraction.

Just sayin'...

Our guys & gals could be doing more practising and less playing also if they weren't so busy chasing the cash.
I am not sure but I think one of the curlers may have even been quoted as saying he would rather curl for cash than medals.
Does anyone remember if that is correct or who it was ?
