Now that I have taken care of finding a place, and the fact that I have been a bit of a transient for the last 3 years, I will need a bed for my room. I was wondering if anyone had any spare beds/mattresses they can part with. If not can you guide me to a place that sells cheap beds/mattresses?

I've heard Goodwell, and maybe Salvation Army may have beds, but I wanted to see if anyone knew any other places in town where you could p/u a mattress or bed. I really need one before I move my stuff into my new place.

One thing that folks should not buy used are beds. Especially these days with the proliferation of bed bugs. Ewwww...

Can you not buy a real cheap new bed at one of the discount furniture places?

I have a couple extra air-mattresses you could have (they are packed away right now, so I'd have to dig them out).

I agree with GOD on the used mattress thing, though Salvation Army & Value Village don't sell used ones anyway...there's are all donated from stores.

You could try one of the bed stores (Mattress Genie) and see what they have on clearance (probably less than $200 in most cases).

GOM is right.....NEVER buy a used mattress.....if anything the queen sized air mattresses are cost effective (less than fifty bucks) and very comfy. Foam can be purchased and placed over a futon for a super comfy sleeping surface....don't be cheap about a bed because you may be sharing it with someone who would not appreciate getting cooties.

Are you offering something to Hurtin'? Very Happy.

If I was living on my own again...I'd get a raised air-mattress, and put a memory foam topper on it (or just get one of those inflatable air mattresses that come with the memory foam top).

You get the firmness of the air mattress, with the plushness of the foam.

We currently have a king-sized memory foam mattress (12" thick)...beautiful thing really, though I have to rotate the mattress every 3 months cause the foam tends to get "soft" in areas. And 12" of memory foam is EXTREMELY heavy.

Take a walk up Mattressville ( St James avenue to those who dont know.. ) Cheap is many a places moto.. BUT... do you have someone who can help deliver it? What size are you looking for? Depending on the day I could maybe help you deliver something using my van if need be. the BRICK has sales of mismatch stuff in the back of the store.. sometimes a fairly good deal

I was waiting for an invitation! lol!

Seriously though, Salvation Army's Thrift stores often have a "truckload Sale" of new mattresses at discount prices (at least the one on Leila & Mcphillips does). You may want to check there.

There are so many manufacturers direct to you . i like Heart mattress in the Bill Knight Showroom.
Again really good advise- make sure you don't buy a backahe mattress! you should get 10 years of comfort with good sleeping . I spent a $1000 10 years ago on atop of the line Box SPRING and mattress, and when I started to get a bachache I put a 2" memory foam over the old, and my back ache went away. That 2" memory foam cost me around $130 and I noyice that today you can get 3". There are also more than 1 quality of memory foam, so you better try everything out, and Do not buy the cheapest mattress, buy the one that feels that it is supporting you the best.

He's already Hurtin, so I don't think that back ache is a factor for his selection of a bed! Smile
