WTF is that all about? oh wait.. how much money do they make off of a birth certificate? How many manitobans are rushing to get passports? Unbelievable the level that this NDP government is willing to stoop to, to rip me off.

I can't say I'm surprised. In fact, I'm surprised they didn't do this sooner.

The old-style Manitoba Registrar paper birth certificates are easily faked by "paper trippers".

Although, the powers-that-be really should have given us unwashed masses some notice.

I am now fucked for travel. I am more then a little pissed off. I will have to pay extra to expidite everything.

But they said they're sorry Dean, and that fixes everything...at least in their minds.

It just makes no sense at all. I can see the Feds telling MB. dudes... your certificate is not good enough.. but for the province to say... hey just dont allow it anymore okay?

Gee I wonder why they would do this and not tell anyone.. Nothing at all do to with how much they make of off birth certificates, or the fact they the province introduced the enhanced drivers license.. nope nothing at all.

I am waiting of the Assistant to Greg Selinger to call me back. I suspect once this news broke they have a lot of phone calls to return.

What do I want? A waiving of the fee for processing and expiditing for all Manitobans impacted by this and needing a new Birth Certificate.

That seems like reasonable compensations for all the trouble they've put you, and others, through, imo.

My passport application was going in on Monday. I am now fucked...if I am lucky I will be able to have it all done by time I need to travel. IF I am lucky.

fuckin freep.. they could at least maybe get a little bit of the information correct.

1) few birth certificates are impacted by this.
2) its not "everything before 1983"
3) its only ones that were never actualy registered with the prov government because the local guy who took the application was simply to lax in sending it in.
look for a Division Registrar number in the lower right hand corner. If yours has that, you are fine.

Yeah...CTV news didn't cover that too well last night either.

I was born in Quebec and at that time the churches issued the certificates. Some time ago Canada refused to accept the Quebec church issued certificates and I needed to get a Quebec birth certificate. They charged me $10 and I got a new plastic laminated certificate in about a week via snail mail.

yup. but it actually has that information right on the passport website

Maybe the province can expedite the process for you if you give them a call...

Already talking to them thats how I found out the real information.

I called Vital Statistics on Monday am to get an explanation. My BC is ok, but what a miserable b1tch on the phone.

The staff at Vital statistics are very knowledgable, courteous and effecient. My BC was indeed no good. I was in and out of the office in under 30 minutes with my new one in hand. No charge.
