http://www.winnipegfreepress.com/breakingnews/Shut-out-from-inquiry-Sinclair-family-charges-47875382.html

So apparently his family ( who I might add are not up on any charges at all) think that because the province wont pay for a lawyer for them, then they cant participate in the inquiry.

umm.. what the heck they need a freakin lawyer for?

They are probably being advised by a chiefs association.

But for what? Considering the scope of the inquiry they will not get to ask nor answer any questions... so the lawyer is to sit beside them and hold hands?

As ridiculous as it sounds, I'm going to agree with GOM's answer. The SCO is probably pressuring the family to put their fingers in the pie.

They were probably so advised on the speculation that the enquiry will point some fault at HSC and the WRHA (like how could they not), so the family that had nothing to do with Sinclair for years, can cry crocodile tears on how they miss him and then sue the ass off someone for beaucoup $$'s. Anyone want to argue that I'm wrong?

Thats the unfortunate thing. If I screw up at work, someone might get paid the wrong amount, of the reports are late, but screw up in a hospital and someone can die, and thats what happened. Not that it should be taken lightly, and someone should be held responsible, but the omission was not deliberate or criminal. That being said, should anyone "profit" from the situation? (Rhetoric question, no answer necessary)

I can't even imagine what the family is feeling. No matter what problems they may have had in the past, I'm sure that they're wanting to do right by Mr. Sinclair. If their relationship with him was troubled or estranged in any way, I think that would only magnify the feeling that they need to do something for him now.

Let's face it; this inquiry would intimidate most of us here, and we're probably much more comfortable asserting ourselves than most people. I would definitely want a lawyer representing my family's interests, even if it's just to fill me in on what's actually happening.

But this inquiry has absolutely nothing in it for them. Nothing... not one single thing. Yes the trigger was Mr Sinclair dieing, but that is it.

Yes they should have the benefit that most would want, funny I hear of a lawyer is going to help them out .

I heard a good piece on this yesterday. I don't recall by whom. Sorry.

But in that piece the family wanted to hire a Toronto lawyer and along with his higher fees they wanted his travel and accommodation costs covered as well.

My understanding is the family was offered standard legal aid rates with a $40,000 cap. That really sounds reasonable. This society should not have to pay people's legal fees for everything.

An aside, but should the family have standing in this matter? Could not the crown meet with the family to determine their views and ensure they are made known and accommodated?

I'm not so sure that this 'family' deserves standing in this situation. As someone said, where were they before he died. I still say they're in it for the money.

who is the bad guy? The government? or their evil lawyer who wont work for $40,000.00 ??

This is crap

The title in the Sun is
RESPECT or ELSE

and it has a quote of its plain discrimination.

You know what? it is.. but not the discrimination that you think. Its discrimination against people who dont have any right to be there in the first place.

I love this quote " without feeling like the system is repeating the abuse that Brian suffered"

WTF???? WHO ABUSED HIM???

so if they received official standing does this mean we are paying for all those lawyers?

how fucked up is this?
Its real simple. Guy comes to hospital and dies ignored and by himself. Why? What can we do to prevent it? These are all questions that should already have been answered and quite frankly already have. WTF is with all these people needing to be there and needing money. frick this fucken gravy train for lawyers bullshit. You want standing, fine you get to be there. NOT a lawyer.
