We've been looking around Dugald, Anola and Springfield as that is super close to my husbands workplace. I am pretty sure we can get at least 200 k for our home...we would sell privately.

Out of curiosity, why are you choosing to move outside the city instead of staying within?

We would like more land. We have discussed having a hobby farm....I also think raising the kids in a country setting would be better for them.

You'll be spending a hellava lot of money in fuel for a vehicle when you live in the country. That is not recoverable after tax coin one must remember.

DeanK- I have learnt to complain, complain and complain when I get an assessmant! 3 years ago I put in a complaint and the evaluation was adjusted because mu eaves trough was overloaded with leaves! lol
I got an adjustment because everything inside needed lots of work, and the evaluation is always based on what the current condition is!
A few months ago I was again at the Board of Revision and I had no clue that I should have been down there with pictures. It also has helped in my evaluation that there is something that I cannot mention on this forum that has the evaluation low.

What? Being 75' away from a freeway perhaps? Or the stain on the lawn that Dean left?

We live far from my husbands workplace right now, it takes him 30 minutes to get to work. If we were to move to Anola or Dugald he'd be much closer to his work.

Work is only a small part of lifestyle.

Anola is what.. 15 minutes from the city? not like they would really be missing much from city life being that close.

Exactly....15 minutes. Already you can see the difference.

If I forget something I need, I can easily walk to Safeway. Living in Anola, it's a drive. Services are limited and the commute adds upver time. imo.

At least that was my personal experience from living in a bedroom community outside of Calgary some years ago.

hell I COULD walk to safeway if I wanted but usually if I fogot something and its important enough to go back to the store I am in a hurry and drive anyway.
15 minutes once in a while aint much to give up considering the other benefits.

Me right now I am staying in the city. will I want to move out later in life? who knows. but I do know that both living in a city and living outside of a city offer substanial benefits that depending on what you are looking for, far outweigh the negatives.

As you get older, the distance to an ambulance becomes extremely important.

I just lost my brother because he was on a remote friggn' island without good medical facilities.

But, you've got a few years to worry about that.

We are just looking right now. We have it pretty good, our house is paid off and we have minimal debt. Our assets outweigh our liabilities, wow this is the first time I can actually say that! Smile We would like to live outside the city and are keeping our eyes and ears open for any good deals.

Condolences- JTF- Medical service is certainly a big issue as one ages.
I am 4 years with this back thingy, spine actually, and I haven't started regarding my worn out knees.
Quality of life just isn't what I expected it to be at age 61 to 65. When I look at DeanK's grandfather at 97? I don't want the pain for another 30 years , unless I have got my Forum for support! lol

BUT... was he enjoying his life to the fullest on that island before his death?

Life is about living how you want, not neccessarily about living the longest.
