As another part of my initiation to become a new resident of Manitoba I have to get an Immobilizer installed into my "extreme high risk" car. Its going to be a tricky install as I already have a $700 aftermarket security system (including immobilizer) installed but it does not have the "MPI approved" stamp on it.

Where have people had good/bad experience in the past?

What kind of car do you have?

Have you approached MPI about getting your security system approved?

In any event, good luck with this. I've no first hand experience but I have heard a few horror stories. Only recommendation I have is go to a reputable and well known company to have this work done.

My immobilizer only kills the ignition and the starter, it doesn't cut the fuel which is the third requirement by MPI. Sad

EDIT: Its a 97 Legacy GT. I think its classed as "extreme high risk" because it has a hood scoop...

nono.. seriously all I have heard is horror stories about getting the MPI one installed when one already exists. He/(she?) (although it is a car with a scoop so I am assuming He..hehehe possibly asian based on the car Razz ) is going to have a tough time finding anyone who will do it properly.

No I'm not Asian lol. I'm as white as they come. Living out in the country back in southern Ontario I needed the AWD for muddy/gravel backroads as well as heavy snow in winter. But at the same time I needed the good mileage that a car gets on the highway. The Subaru fits the bill perfectly...

I miss my Subaru, but not the repair bills it incurred. Wink

don't laugh...it was a tough little car.

And a standard transmission...so I could really get it moving "off the line" when I wanted to.

*Red Subaru*

Very similar except Silver. I took this picture at my old place in Ontario last year.

Also: here a video of me pulling a friends truck out of the mud at a dirt bike rally last year. These cars are tough!
