Any thoughts on the throne speech?

Sounds like a 'stay the path' deal to me.

I like the idea of the adult fitness tax credit. But I'm really at the point where what appeals to me is what puts more money in my pocket and what makes the province better for my kids.

The helicopter is probably a good thing. The rest I really couldn't care less about.

I would have liked them to change the rules around the tuition rebate though. Right now it has to be accredited as per CRA regulations. The problem with that is if you attend full time it can be a Canadian or Foreign institution. If you attend part time it can only be Canadian and not international. If I am taking a degree vs. distance education, what difference does it make if their offices are in Northern Alberta or England? I'm looking at pursuing some post grad education in the next few years. Unfortunately if this isn't changed, the list of schools I'm looking at is decreased along with the quality of education.

I didn't see much in the throne speech to get too excited about. I'm getting a little jaded I think.

While I too like the helicopter idea we have a ways to go on justice. Better sentencing and more jails would be preferable...

Brodbeck has gone berserk on his readers on the helicopter issue. http://blog.canoe.ca/raisinghell/2009/11/30/police_chopper_a_done_deal?p=59022&c=1&tb=1&pb=1#comments

Seems to me that we are about to embark on a debt load we have never experienced before in the history of our province.

Bad enough when the damn commie feds did it, now the damn commie province is doing it to.

friggin commies.

The balanced budget legislation needs to be changed.

Rolling 4 yr avg? that's crap, and why you have a rainy day fund.

Also remove all non operating entities ( MLCC, Hydro, etc)

Balanced budget legislation should apply to operating funds. Problem is that our Prov Giov't has been lumping in all the revenue generating crown corps so that they can spend more.

That rolling four year average is indeed crap. Especially so if an opposing party gains power. They will have to pay debt other government's have foisted upon them.

Change that legislation back such that no provincial government can impose debt on another.
