I am looking for used kids skates. My kids start skating lessons on January 9th and I need skates. Any recommendations where to buy them?

Try that store out on McPhillips, if it's still there.

Check out Value Village, I've seen kids skates there before. Or if you belong to freecycle ask over there.

Well we found skates....we went to Source for Sports on Pembina. They carry both new and used, they didn't have any small sizes in used so we bought new.

@ $70.00 before tax for a pair of size Y6 skates. Plus the $40 for a CSA approved Helmet, since helmets are mandatory cant have kids skating without helmets, you never know when that meteorite might come burning into our atmosphere and hit a kid on the head.

All in all. @ $220.00 before the 5%gst and 7%pst.

if my Boy decides to play hockey, it shall get expensive. I saw some skates in the $900.00 range.

They were expensive but well worth it. Now I need to buy a pair of skates, I will buy used though.

We got skates for our daughter at Canadian Tire...only $50, and they adjust 4 sizes...so she should be able to wear them for at least 2 years.

She's the same age/size as yours GC/LD

Add the helmet & mask...and it's about $120 total.

For used stuff though...I typically go to usedwinnipeg.com or kijiji.ca, I have to get a pair for myself too, though I might go check out Play it Again Sports...so I can try a few pair on before I buy.

would you recommend them for skates for adults?

what price ranges to they have there?

i've never been there, and their website doesn't show anything.

I'm trying to find a 1/2 decent pair for less than $50 for me.

If the skates are in good shape I would think they would be more then 50. I was looking more for the kids then for myself. Best to go and check it out. Source for Sports also carries used skates.

Used Winnipeg is a great site, we've bought and sold a ton of stuff on there.

sorry I never saw this before now guys.

CT sells kids (and adult) skates alot cheaper then 70 per pair. Also I could have helped with the helmets Sad.. I have smaller skates but only starting at size y11.

As to expense... if you think the skates can be expensive LD... dont look at the sticks. Skates will generally last at least 1-2 seasons for kids and dependsing on wear almost forever for adults... sticks. well they need a new one of those every 4-6 months just because of growth never mind breakage.

We paid $60.00 per pair of skates. A little pricey but we can trade them in once they outgrow them.

Just a word of advice when buying the adult skates. Spend more than a few minutes in them at the store wandering around, especially if they have the molded inserts inside that form to "your" feet. If the mold is already formed to someone else's foot, it may be hurtful on yours. If the molded part of the boot can be heated and re-molded problem may be solved.
We spent a few bucks buying used skates with the molded boot for my son only to have to take them back and purchase new.

Good to know, I'll keep that in mind when I go get myself some skates. Thanks
