So its coming up to my one year anniversary with my girlfriend, and its time for us to celebrate. She likes Hungarian and Ukranian foods best, so I think I'll take her out for some. Any suggestions for either type of food? I'd prefer to take her to a place that you can wear a clean shirt Razz .

I would love to find a restaurant in Winnipeg with some authentic Hungarian Paprikash or Goulash.

Bump.

I too am looking for Hungarian/Russ/Uke food. Any other places besides the ones mentioned above? Alternatively, if any Uke churches sell cabbage-y goodness on weekends, I'd like to know that too.

Sweet. Since I'm a newspaper junkie, I will be sure to keep my eyes out.

Yeah, I'm still in BC. We were out there x 7 days last week to subject ourselves to the humiliation of bidding wars, knob and tube electrical horrors, and tree roots busting through basements. We're taking over our "new" house in River Heights on 2 September.

Did you buy in the area of River Heights thats built on an ancient burial ground or the part thats built over an old sewage lagoon?

Just visiting a couple of the bread stores or meat stores in and around the city usually they have alot of things like that posted on a bulletin board as well.

hmm.. come to think of it. I seem to recall the Orthodox church on Grant avenue sells perogies and cabbage rolls. Although that might only be during their perogy suppers.

There is a German bakery that our closest friend shops at, whenever we are over at her house for supper, that the buns are enough to kill for, or shovel 30 yards of earth!
Of course I cannot see them in the Yellow Pages.

Hey, you guys can't be serious... As long as you're talkin' 'bout Ukrainian and Polish food, then okay, but all the rest? Yuk. Just stick to Deank's diet and y'all will be just fine.
Is there an exclusive Ukrainian restaurant in Winnipeg? That would be a great investment.

Did they finally upgrade the tacky mactac wood grain panelling, since I was there last (10 years ago?)

There was a Bosnian restaurant on Pembina but it closed about a year ago.
