Here's the latest news on the stadium deal...

http://www.winnipegfreepress.com/local/show-us-the-fine-print-90460254.html

Unbelievable how they are "All" getting away with this nonsense...

Now that it is crystal clear that Asper/Creswin will not "OWN" the stadium I question the deal.

Deank, you were absolutely right: the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, without the stadium, are not worth $90 million dollars. I expect we could estimate their value based on the cost current owners paid for Hamilton, Toronto, Vancouver and Calgary.

I suspect that would be less than $5 million...

Heh....that's the only reason??...look closer GOM...there are a couple of more Smile

Asper's going to have to come up with some tenants for his up-scale mall pretty soon or the whole mess will come down. He's been at it for over a year now, and things are still at square one....no tenants.

Two loans to an Asper at this time and under these circumstances are questionable imo. Would you lend him money?

If you want more reasons...just ask

Exactly JTF...and I wouldn't lend the (*******) a nickel right at the moment...

And yes years now on the "Shop till you drop Mall" and nothing yet so is it perhaps several "Trees" called "Elms" to be located at Polo Park as part of this deal instead?...

And aren't Elm trees native to MB?...

Hum!...Can't beat this price...Just let them grow naturally...and furthermore that would also be consistent with the deal that has been signed recently...

Or is it then who knows...Perhaps down the road when the Elm trees "still don't grow" according to plan...

Could it also now probably mean more "Tax Payer Money Required Now" just to buy seeds to plant the "Elm Trees" and or to buy new "Elm Trees to plant" at Polo Park in Wpg's or MB future?...

Hum!...I saw a plan or deal like that recently somewhere else in the peg...

Oh yeah it's called the CHRM or something... Mad

GGF, these antisemitic rants against the our beloved aspers is growing tiresome. so what if these zionists want to screw us? we have a collective responsibility to them because their grandparents endured the holocaust! we should all become slaves to all jewry wherever they live. thats the least we can do!

It's too bad that Ledohowski isn't politically bent. He'd be a guy I would vote for...as mayor or PC leader.

And Leo also probably says...Who needs this BS all the time...

And the heck with those loser politicians in the peg and the province of MB that cannot figure it out already...

And I'll just take my money and invest it elsewhere and in places that don't have all the BS like in the peg and the province of MB...

And translated means...A more business friendly environment to invest in without all the political BS or other behind it...

And unfortunately that also means we all lose in the peg and in MB and he probably knows it while he may never have said it publicly...

And also because like JTF wrote:

Here's an interesting turn of events imo....

http://www.winnipegfreepress.com/local/stadium-a-step-closer-new-information-about-the-project-revealed-the-devil-is-in-the-details-91180524.html

...no construction will begin on The Elms until the city sees a letter from a financial institution that demonstrates how Creswin will pay back its $75-million share of the Winnipeg Football Club's $90-million loan.

It appears that Katz is off-loading due diligence onto the banks....or coming to his senses and realizing that this is a public deal and will get scrutinized whether he, or others, like it or not.

The evil CBC has posted a new twist in the stadium story:

"A former policy adviser to Winnipeg Mayor Sam Katz is questioning the
city's role in a deal that would see prime retail land at Polo Park
sold for much less than it could be worth down the road."

http://www.cbc.ca/canada/manitoba/story/2010/04/27/mb-stadium-deal-questioned-winnipeg.html

Good thing this is coming out before the ground breaking ceremony. Oh wait...I forgot, nothing will happen and the stadium will go through unabated.

Awe shucks...

meh.. he is just saying what most of us sandboxians have said from day 1. Fair Market value is what the market would pay for it in a "bidding war"

might get more, might get less.

This is the first time anybody has come up with the real value of the Polo Park property

$241,000,000.00

Quite a difference from the number we've been given eh.

This deal stinks to high heaven and finally the crap is coming out. About time!!!

but that 241 million is what it "should" be worth after the new building is added not what its worth as an empty lot.

Domed stadium pitched

Wyatt says sales tax would pay for project

Transcona Coun. Russ Wyatt wants to hold a referendum on the new stadium deal -- but it looks like nobody else on council wants to kill the $137.5-million plan to build a new home for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.

As council prepares to vote this morning on the city's role in the complex proposal to build a new football stadium at the University of Manitoba, Wyatt was hoping to move a motion to put off the plan instead of a holding a referendum on a separate stadium plan during this fall's civic election.

Instead of selling the existing Canada Inns Stadium site to David Asper's Creswin Properties -- and expecting Creswin to pay back the bulk of a provincial stadium-building loan -- Wyatt wants to create a new sales tax to fund a domed stadium alongside the Winnipeg Convention Centre.

ugg, part of that sales tax would go straight to True North to buy out the deal of no competition. Not sure I like that aspect.

Exactly... Claiming that land is worth $241 million is absurd. The value add that the Mall creates drives the $241 million valuation.

That deal never should have been signed in the first place...or at least have some kind of sunset clause...

Whatever, I say pay it off and get us a dome...especially if we're going to be forced to pay for the whole friggin' thing anyway.

We don't need to do it with a special tax.

I wonder out loud just how much investment the present Bomber Board will have or does have in this deal on a private basis.

It's starting to look, to me, as if there is an under-the-table deal with Asper and some Board members. Why else would they give away so much for nothing?

The city and Asker agree it is worth $241M. That is the number that one takes to the bank.
