These are the hot-ticket items for house construction! I have seen some cool places done using containers.

Don't you have to pay property tax on them?

I don't see how you should, as they are a portable unit that doesn't require foundation to support.

A person could buy 6 containers and then bury them underground. this would make a great setup for a hydroponic marijuana grow-op.

1 container used for cloning.
1 container used to house the gen-set for power and all the tanks for the hydroponic fluids.
4 containers for the marijuana in various stages of growth.

This setup could easily produce a million dollars a year in high-grade marijuana.

Yea. Just remembering the setup that had been in operation for 15 years before someone ratted it out due to a disagreement. It was near Dauphin, MB.

It was in a story I had read. The oldest tree`s found growing on top of the site were 15 years old. I was near the Jasper/Hinton, Alberta area when I read about it. a CN welding foreman showed us the story. I don't remember which news paper it was in.

I would actually like to design a house with those containers...but the cost per square foot is higher than building new.

And getting them to meet code without compromising the integrity of the structure adds even more cost to it.

I'd love to see the cost reports on those "houses" in the video.
Also to know if they meet building codes? or if they cut some corners?

I even have a design in mind of what I'd like to have...I'll draw it up tonight and try posting it.

I dont recall any information about the age of the trees. might have missed it for sure, but from what I remember it was at most 2 years old.

A Manitoban named Patrick Richardson was sentenced last year for a bizarre subterranean subterfuge, in which eight railway boxcars had been buried three metres deep and stacked side to side to form an underground pot bunker. Powered by diesel generators and hooked up to a well, the bunker was concealed above by freshly planted trees.

I think you might be thinking of the BC grow op that was busted with basically the same idea.

Parts of the border fence separating America from Mexico are made from old shipping containers dating back to the Vietnam era or earlier.
