I thought I remember reading that you no longer had to wait a year to do a divorce in Manitoba, yet I went and checked online and it seems this is still the case?

Yeah yeah he should go talk to a lawyer, no doubt. But he does not want to contest anything and is willing to continue paying the house and the bills and give her custody of the kids ( with visitation rights) and really does not want to spend all sorts of stupid money on lawyers and is wondering about this whole wait a year thing, if its still in force or not or if the websites just have old information.

anyone?

I would still consult a lawyer. Even if both claim it will be amicable and will split everything equally etc etc, from my experience (with my ex) things don't always work out that way. We were amicable and were still getting along until I started dating again and then he turned into an ass and tried to make my life hell. I still kick myself for not consulting a lawyer as I did get screwed financially but at the end of the day I decided to cut my losses.

Thanks, I will let him know that someone with experience suggests getting the lawyer anyway.

But is the whole year wait thing still in effect?

That I have no idea about. I never married my ex but we were common law for 10 years and owned property together.
