I'm going on a road trip through Whiteshell Provincial Park with my parents tomorrow. Does anyone have a restaurant suggestion in the Park for us?

I was just in the Whiteshell a while back and we stopped in at a restaurant in Brereton Lake. The food was decent and they are licensed. It is right across the road from the beach.

Nice place at Falcon Lake too.

Two places really. One has an ice cream station in the front windows, but the sit-down dining is pretty good.
The other is attached to the bar/vendor and again has good portions for reasonable prices.

Both are on the main strip near the lake.

Thanks for the replies, folks. We ended up at the Falcon Lake Bakery Bistro and thoroughly enjoyed our meals.

Jennifer's in Seven Sisters is probably one of the best restaurants in the Whiteshell area.

Unfortunately Chef Jozef closes the restaurant during the summer months and he is only open from September to April.

Heh...he mustn't be Polish if he closes for the busy season.

They had a location in Winnipeg in the west end at Wellington and Wall, or thereabouts. Good food and unbelievable value. Eastern European food of some kind: cabbage, potatoes, schnitzel, etc..
I have actually never been to the original location in Seven Sisters, but would expect much the same there.

(The Winnipeg location closed a couple years ago and is now a different restaurant that serves 5 course meals. The name escapes me at the moment.)

I must check it out....I love blintzes, the kinds of breads (if they make their own I hope) that are reminiscent of the hearty loaves I enjoyed in Eastern Europe (mind you with our grades of flour it is difficult to duplicate a true Eastern euro style heavy bread), schnitzels and home made wursts....sounds to me then he would be from the Danzig/Gdansk region....they have some wonderfully herbed seasonal soups with a veggie/cream base.

I wish I could describe my meals there in more detail, but I'm terrible at remembering that kind of thing. For some reason, my brain doesn't remember anything that I eat. I would never survive as a cave man. I would be eating the same poisonous plants over and over again.

Jennifer's isn't exactly a bakery.

It's more of a meat and potatoes kind of place for "sandwich and fries" prices.

For example you can get a Weiner Schnitzel platter with 2 cutlets, potatoes, salad and red cabbage for $10.

And bless your admittently neanderthal heart.....what you said reminds me of a wonderful book called "Food in History".....you can find used copies of it on abebooks or Powellbooks.com - brilliant book as it answers those questions as to gee if it was poisonous eaten "this" way how did we discover to make non poisonous? Perhaps this is also relative to the royal taster jobs? heheheh
