Personally I think its pretty cool except for the hepatitis. man I cant believe in the one video a guy is actually drinking the stuff pouring out of the middle of the snake.

video in this link

http://www.winnipegfreepress.com/sports/football/what-do-you-get-with-a-giant-beer-cup-snake-wet-cut-fans-and-a-security-review-98360814.html

hell they should try setting a Guiness Record. Pretty soon football fans across the planet would be trying to break a Winnipeg started tradition

If you read their statement - http://www.bluebombers.com/article/blue-bomber-statement-code-of-conduct - it does reference the beer snake, but their code of conduct hasn't changed. It just bans "unruly" behaviour. Presumably if it's a well-behaved beer snake, it will be allowed.

There is significant discussion on Ourbombers about this. It was apparantly incredibly disruptive while occuring. There were stacks of beer cups flying all over that section as peeps collected and assembled the "snake".

There was significant amount of beer spilled on people as well. And as the snake ended they started throwing the cups around indiscriminately causing a significant number of minor injuries.

Not as innocuous as one might think.

The Bomber's approach to their fans sure takes the FU out of fun.

I'm thinking the crowd at the games are a little too senior citizen. Where's the fun in sitting down and shutting up?

I like the beer snake, Just imagine how much it cost to make... at $7.50 for jumbo draft. that is one pricey snake.
Maybe if they lowered the price of beer the fans would not get so cantankerous.

I hear this specious comment ALL the time. I don't get it. Where does it say fans have to sit down and shut-up?

Over the last 4 years the rules have gone from no flag waving, no horns, no noise makers, no tailgating.....

I'm no defender of the bozos running that team. I've maintained they don't seem to have a clue about creating a fun atmosphere before, during and after the games.

But this one thing, the beer cup snake, created a very unpleasant time for a large number of peeps. I frankly don't care one way or the other unless it affected me. It didn't. The problem is a very few people created the problem. And as usual, the few ruined it for the many.

But nowhere do they say sit on your hands and make no noise. It also does not say come to the stadium and drink until you're silly then selfishly ruin it for others...

Not at all JTF and that is the point. At the beginning people were throwing cups from adjacent sections and even the upper deck! People were getting showered by beer as the cups flew around the area.

At the end they began throwing stacks of cups towards the field. Those cups were hitting a whole whack of peeps on the way.

There was significant comment from some of the "partyers" within that section that were also quite unhappy with the whole effort.

I keep reading how everyone says section S is the drunk party section anyway, etc etc.

I've never attended a game, but is that made clear when you buy your tickets? Or is it possible that people who want to enjoy the game and not a drunk party-fest could end up in that section too?

I'm pretty sure after reading that fans should just not be party poopers if they don't want beer spilled on them from flying cups that I would never want to attend a game, is this seriously what it's like?

I believe section S was designated the STUDENT section. I believe it has evolved into the PARTY section. When purchasing tickets you are NOT warned that the section might be a little rambunctious.

It's absurd really. The people that are found in that section get very indignant when challenged about being a little TOO exuberant. If you want to enjoy an evening of football cheering for your favourite team you might not enjoy finding yourself in that section.

AVOID it unless you wish to party like it's 1975...

Good. Those horns are ridiculous. It would be fine if they actually blew out a musical note, but it's just annoying sheep bleating. If you head to a bomber game for a good time, and you can't have one because you need to blow a horn, you have problems.

As for the snake, I'm glad that's gone too. You know for a fact it was going to spread to other sections, and the last thing I want is cups of beer covered in people's backwash slithering across my lap or over my head. Disgusting.

What next? Urinal Puck Hot Potato?

The record...
The beer snake stretched the entire width of the Inverarity Stand which
measures approximately 45m wide. This was featured on the live telecast
by Channel Nine.

If they built the snake horizontally, instead of vertically...they could wrap three sides of the stadium...if planned right Wink. And beat the record.

Personally...the snake itself is not an issue...it's the throwing of "donations" that makes it a hazard...and I agree that shouldn't happen. If someone wants to "donate" their cup to the snake...they should run it down to someone closer and hand it to them...so nobody gets hurt.

Apparently Winnipeg has made Wikipedia though:

Security staff at many sporting venues frown on such behaviour, and
will often attempt to confiscate the empty cups from people building a
beer snake. This is in part owing to the dangers of such structures in
crowded places and in part owing to a rare phenomenon of
Mequophidiophobia or "fear of the beer snake". [citation needed]
As a result of several minor injuries that occurred when a beer snake
collapsed during a regular season Canadian Football League game, the
Winnipeg Football Club banned the creation of beer snakes during Winnipeg Blue Bombers football games.[1]

Good luck with that. It's in Hamilton. Will there even be enough people in the stands to make a go of it?
