Title says it all.

Because I'm from Vancouver, I spend all of my time neurotically clutching a Schtarbhucz mug (read: vat) and looking for someone who is willing to refill the coffee in my mainline IV. I do not do Slurpees, which will differentiate me from everyone else in the Winnipeg crowd. If I were to look for local places, that cater to the victims of coffee addiction, which ones are worth the $5 I'm dropping on a fancy-ass coffee? I tried Cornelia Beans the other day, and was thrilled. Looking for other places in the same sort of general vein.

Anyone suggesting Tim Hortons gets choked by with an arctic fleece jacket.

I used to enjoy a Tim Hortons, but believe it or not you should try MeDonalds, and then realize that your taste buds are only for you! I have gone from restaurant to restaurant and have come back with the conclusion that there is no place to get a good cup of coffee, but once you find one, that will be it!
I bring coffee beans in from Roca Jacks in Regina, 5 lbs at a ime for about $50, because my wife loves the taste. That lasts about 5 weeks, and that is 5 cups per day , or 30 cents a cup.
Make coffee at home and put the $4.50 into a cookie jar and you have a cool $1500 in hidden savings, and you can fly away for a vacation.

Since you're a new River Heights citizen check out Academy Road. Lot's of unique places along that stretch to try out.

Not being a coffee connoisseur I have no recommendations. But you'll get many suggestions from the sandbox soon enough...

I have noted that Schtarbhucks is everywhere, much like McDonalds and TimmyHos. That said, I'm seeking local-y local places that have less commercial offerings.

@grumpy old man --> I did try Cornelia Beans on Academy, as it's 1/2 block from my crumbling fire trap. It was good. Eventually I'll wander down further, and maybe cruise Corydon if I'm feeling spRy.

I have my own coffee maker at work, and co-workers often marvel at how great the aroma is. I buy gourmet beans and grind them at home. Not everyone likes gourmet coffee, but I find it way tastier than the regular stuff.

I remember melitta- very good taste.
I have found most coffees in most places nothing to get excited over with! I have never found any coffee in any restaurant to have any taste .

I buy the Melitta beans, grind some and it makes the most delicious coffee. Way better than Tim's, Robin's or any other place. All coffee pales in comparison to grind-your-own.

I am quite partial to Tim Horton's coffee.

I don't like Robins.

As for starbucks, I'll get their fancy schmancy drinks, but their regular coffee just tastes burnt to me.

My fave is probably the coffee I make at work in my coffee press.

Still in BC x 30 more days. I've been flying back and forth between YWG and YVR for a week here, a week there for 2 months now. It took that long to find a house that wasn't sold for $30K over asking price, stolen away from me in a bidding war! There was one place we made an offer on that had 12 offers on it. INSANE. I've never seen anything like it.

Island Lakes, Southlands, River Heights, Sage Creek...it was a giant ball of suck and bidding wars. Hubby turned his nose up at Steinbach/Selkirk/Lasalle etc. I didn't want to live in the North End, or anywhere remotely close to it. Finally, a few minutes before I was about to toss myself under a bus, we grabbed a place in N. River Heights that needed top to bottom electrical replaced. If it hadn't been a dud, we'd be living in a cardboard box in a month.

LaSalle has a great golf course, Kingswood.

Rosencrentz is originally from the North End, so you did well to avoid it!

I usually brew my own coffee and I use Melita. I have heard the Fyxx makes a decent cup of java.

I can't bring myself to spending more than $2 on a cup of coffee. I would do that at a nice restaurant, but not regularly at Starbucks or any place similar. Once in a while only.

We're all sort of a big family in the sandbox. If you need any help don't hesitate to ask. Someone here knows something about just about everything!

I expect you'll come to love Winnipeg as much as most of us do. Welcome to Winnipeg!

DeanK can fix anything! I can supervise for a very short time!
If you need a good, reasonably (still) priced general contractor, who can get a lot done in a short period of time, Kent Walters at 228 3119 (cell), He saved my life in the house that I am in right now, that we were trying to do "ourselves"!

Thanks for the welcomes. I'm pleased to have stumbled into here and wasn't turned away!

@rosencrentz --> I'll keep Kent in mind. I'm sure we'll eventually need a general contractor, once the raping/looting/pilaging electrical people are done shredding the walls and the painters are done patching/covering the holes. I have a coat closet on the main that I'd like to see become a powder room...one day.
