Is it any wonder there is so much cynicism when it comes to some of "these" programs?

When is the chiefs press conference?

... bets are they are going to have one and demand accreditation ... you know even though none of them could pass the test.

If someone ripped me off for $8,600, their face would be shingled to a roof.

....so why isn't this being investigated as a fraud?

Yeah...not sure what the chiefs would have to do with it, other than to help shut the whole program down.

And demanding accreditation would not do well if they can't pass the test, as companies looking for qualified candidates would probably not hire them...plus, if they go for their Level 2, they'd have an extremely hard time qualifying and passing that.

Check out what happened in Sask.

Why dont these people just go to RRC or Winnipeg Tech and take the courses there? The MMF or the First nations can pass on the $$ they get from the government to RRC etc...

Well, on that one I can answer a little.

The RRC programs have (for the past few years) been beyond capacity for the trades programs.

There are waiting lists to get in at all levels...especially the 1st level.

I know our guys who want to get their certifications have to wait...and when an opening arrives...take it...even if it means walking off a jobsite for a few weeks.

Wow. What an opportunity for scammers!

Start a school and then sell tuitions and then split.
Oh ya...teach a little in between.

"GET IN LINE"

I have another word for the government of the day: certification.

Don't allow peeps to provide "training" unless they meet certain criterion and maybe put tuition fees in trust until graduation. Protect the students.

So, you want to shut down my 'enterprize' before I can even get it off the ground? Certification indeed. Wink

I'm sure they got in through some Aboriginal program loophole.

what really needs to happen is for a group to get together and start applying at local Aboriginal programs for attendance.

For every one that gets denied for not being Aboriginal, it should be made public and an inquiry ordered for discrimination.

This should apply to any program sponsoring other minorities or women as well.

This has happened quite a bit in Manitoba. Maybe everywhere I guess but I know of a few other programs that this happened to as well.

I have one person "working" for me who finished a course I think from Red River, who is making frames for me in my workshop!
"SHE" is very pleasant, very excited about learning on the job, and on the simple frames is great, and on the difficult frames is great.
When she runs into a problem frame, she calls in help, 1st her boyfriend, and then she said she could go to get help from her accredited teacher.
She spent 8 months at a cost of appx $8600 and her days were spent 1/2 in school and 1/2 in the shop. To get a certificate she needs to put in 900 hours working , and I believe that she has put in 700 to date.
I am getting frames or our store, and she is getting experience working every day .
So far, so very good!
Those students that put time in to learn a trade were robbed!

That is a great idea, I see one problem. The death threats that would surely follow might scare one off of this scheme.

There are still a few women only fitness centers. I would love to see them forced to be co-ed much in the same way women forced male only gyms to be co-ed.

Ahhh...see...now there I'll disagree.

There are still men-only gyms around...and there should be.

And when it comes to private enterprise...I could care less if they discriminate.

For example...I don't go to Hooters to see guys wearing short-shorts and a tank-top...so for Hooters to discriminate and only hire females (preferably with large assets) because that's what the "customer" demands...then so be it.

Same for the gyms, or clubs...IF it's a private business/club.

BUT, these aboriginal things are all funded by TAXPAYER money...meaning I pay for it...which means I should be able to benefit from it...and that's where I find it wrong.

Prime example...many of the Native casinos in the US have been built and funded by the Native tribes of the US...and pay dividends out to their members and support their projects...IMO...GREAT!!! as long as there's no tax-payer money going into it...and as long as the taxes are paid the same as any other business.

But the first time the government puts money into something...it MUST be required that it could benefit ALL taxpayers as equally as possible.

There are a few RARE exceptions...such as handicapped persons...or those who CANNOT provide for themselves...for example it costs more to put a wheelchair ramp in then just adding steps...and it doesn't benefit EVERYONE equally...but it provides accessibility for those who don't have it...being one race or another, or one sex or another DOES NOT QUALIFY.

Actually there is no disagreement. I feel much the same way.

I would love to be the sports reporter allowed to go into the women's locker room after beach volleyball or any women's team sport.

I find it hypocritical and quite funny that "we"(western) as a society have painted ourselves into a corner.
