Hey all,
We picked up a kitten from my office about 3 weeks ago.
He's adorable, pure black, wonderful with people.

Unfortunately, our other cat will have NOTHING to do with him.

We turn our backs for more than a minute, and he starts attacking the poor kitten...claws and teeth.

If we thought we could keep both cats, we would, as they are both WONDERFUL with our daughter and our dog individually, but we don't want this poor kitten to be traumatized anymore, so we'd like to give him to a good home.

I'd rather NOT take him to the humane society, but my office won't allow the cat back in either...so I have a choice to make...TODAY.

Currently, the cat is at my office, but if I can't find a home for him, I have to take him to the humane society after work.

If any of you would be willing to take him, I could either bring him by or you could pick him up today and then I'd know he'll be taken care of.

Here's a photo of him the day we got him. He's a little bigger now...but still just as cute.

I'd put a photo of him up here...but my company's stupid "security" program blocks image hosting sites. I could e-mail you a photo though if you want to PM me your e-mail address.

Send me one also. I'm not sure I need a FOURTH cat but I don't want him sent to the humane society either. I'll consider it anyway...

also of note.

Cats usually do that for a couple of days to show who "owns" the house. It gets worse if you interfere because the "owner" cat is then resentful of your interference.

Lock both up in the house for a day with no one home to stop it. You come home to friends, or well maybe a dead kitty... but I have never seen the second option.

*NOTE

Advice void if your original cat is American.

We reached our limit @ 5... all of which were similar rescue situations like this.

The last one to enter the group was 2 years ago. After going through this process before (it's never any fun for the first 4-6 months, so be prepared) it was a little easier.

We found the best method was to use a spare bedroom if you have, something that you can secure the newbie in for the first few weeks. We put the new cat into the spare room, complete with a litter box and a cat bed from our existing cats. (as well as food dish and water obviously)

My wife wanted to bond with this particular cat (all the others chose me for some reason...she was a little miffed...so this one was "hers") if you choose to do this method, make sure whomever is wanting to be the "bonded" human should be the one who brings the newbie food and play for the first week or two. Bring a spare blanket or towel to leave in the room, the new cat will leave it's scent all over, which you can then take out with you and leave around the house for the existing cats to start smelling and getting used to the scent of the newcomer. Having a few laying out, both in the spare room and in the rest of the house, and exchanging them will get all the cats a chance to smell one another without a confrontation.

We were only able to keep the newbie in the spare room for two weeks before she started going stir crazy. After the two week period, we just opened the spare room door and left it open. After two more weeks, we removed the litter box and bed, as she wasn't using that room as a refuge any longer, she found her own hidy-holes to get away from the "pride" when she needed to...

Eventually the pecking order will be re-established, but it won't be all cuddles and purrs for a little while.

...oh and exchanging the litter boxes twice a week, taking the ones from the existing population and the newbie also helps them when it comes time to share the littler boxes down the road.

heh.. one of our neighbour cats is trying to "make friends" with our cat....

as in they follow each other around growling and hissing and smacking each other without doing any real damage.

Two nights ago late evening our cat wanted in the back door so I let her in. 5 minutes later the other cat was mewing and the screen door to come in to.

heh

I've never really isolated new cats. They all got along without much fuss.

But that is good advise, especially if the new cat has any critters or diseases like feline aids.

we've been doing the isolation thing for the past 3 weeks...and we try to bring the new kitten out whenever we are around to try and "control" things.

but the existing cat is just too aggressive, and we're not around enough to keep it up through the whole day.

it's become bad enough that when the existing cat attacks, the little one just craps or pees wherever he is and starts growling and curls into a ball.

that's not fair to the kitten if we can find him a home where he doesn't have to go through that.

like i said though, individually, either cat is EXCELLENT with my daughter, and our dog...it's just the existing cat does not want anything to do with the kitten except to attack it Sad.

So boss has agreed to let me leave the cat here in our warehouse for the weekend (did i mention the kitten is a GREAT mouser?)

So if anyone is interested, the soonest they can get the kitten will be Tuesday.

Let me know if you're interested then and I could arrange for a pickup/dropoff.

Spoiler:
and no...older cat's name is Cedar

My mom can't. My wife said if no one else does we "could" take it.

But... why not keep it as a warehouse cat? Smile keep the mouse situation down Razz

warehouse isn't heated enough in the winter for him...and there's too many things out there that could harm him if he gets into them.

I have to be your very last resort. If Deank can't take him and no one else will, call me.
