How so? If we cut the full 'community services' budget, that saves the city about $100M/year. That's just a small fraction of what's needed to deal with our infrastructure deficit. Even if you remove all funding from everything aside from essential services, we aren't even close to making up what's needed. Right now the combined expenses in our operating budget are around around $800M/year. We need what around $700M/year in additional revenue to deal with our infrastructure issues. I don't think you have any idea of what scale we're actually talking about here. Things that are 'beyond the city's mandate' are an entire order of magnitude off of what's needed here. So if you can explain to me how cutting $100M/year out of the city's budget will somehow give up $700M/year, I'm all ears. Otherwise, where do you plan to get the other $600M/year from?

Do you really expect to repair our infrastructure in a single year?

And, using your numbers, we can do it in 7 years then. Simple eh.

That is only Winnipeg. The rest of manitoba faces about 3 Billion. That will grow substanially as they build the "east side road" and "east west northern access road" that will take an absolute sh1t kicking every year.

All of you miss the bigger picture of "we need more money" cries!
Make a list of every person, every company, every charity, community center, athletic team, and what do they all need?
MORE MONEY, MORE MONEY!
This thread assumes that we should care!
If everyone started to yell at them, to shut the fn up, and move on, then there would be no more criticism of bad roads, poor people without good housing, some aboriginals 500 KM NE of Wpg without water, without good , insulated homes and water and healthy food, and on and on it goes!
I DON'T CARE ABOUT YOUR PROBLEMS, iHAVE MY OWN PROBLEMS1
If some gutsy politician started to say that to the bleeding heart, negative nanny , Loserpeg complainers that might shut the criticism up for an hour or so so we could enjoy the great life we have in Winnipeg.
Try it- WE DON'T CARE!!

Why aren't community centres allowed to hold their own once a week bingo night, to be able to cough up their own supply of Loonies?

Maybe you were, but I was speaking about jurisdictional overlap where it comes to money and that is about the city spending millions on this the province should be funding.

I do believe they do, or at least they used to.

That would make a world of difference.
I would be in favor of this, but what about those that live outside of Winnipeg? (Brnadon, Portage, etc)

Uhm... Aren't there taxpayers in Brandon and Portage La Prairie too?

He was referring to Brnadon, not Brandon.
