Would anyone disagree that Jacob Merkel is a hero?

http://www.winnipegfreepress.com/breakingnews/father-dies-after-defying-fire-109830009.html

Went back into the flaming house several times to save his family. Apparently was so badly injured from the fire he was actually leaving a blood trail as he came out the last time with his oldest.

I can only hope that if I ever ran into the same situation I would be brave and strong enough to do the same for my family.

i won't argue that he's a hero at all.

though on the other hand, i'd be disappointed if he hadn't done what he did.

ANY father should be willing to sacrifice himself in order to save his family...even if it means losing his life.

Had it been me...I can say without hesitation I would do the same...and I'd feel sorry for anyone who tried to stand in my way of saving my family.

Dude is a hero. Puts proper perspective to the word as well when compared to the stupid-a$$ sports announcers that call an athlete's play as heroic.

"ANY father should be willing to sacrifice himself in order to save his family...even if it means losing his life."

I totally agree. any Father should be willing to sacrifice himself like that. But wanting to, and being strong enough to be able to even move like he apparently did are two different things.

It almost sounds like it was pretty much his last ounce of strength he used to go back into that fire yet one more time. I have heard of some pretty heroic people do some pretty amazing things, but from what I have heard he was over and above what most people could ever even claim to think they would be able to do before hand.

yeah...i'm not trying to discount his acts...they were truly committed to saving his family.

but i've heard too many of the opposite stories...where a father leaves his 3 kids behind in a house burning down and his comment is "i barely had enough time to get myself out in time"

to him i would say...just go back and get in the fire...you don't deserve to be out here.

Hero = ordinary person doing extraordinary things.

He qualifies.
