Can anyone recommend a contractor? We need to redo our bathroom.. We have to completely gut it. Any suggestions would be much appreciated. Also, where the best place(s) to go for tubs etc.

We had a great experience with Sanford Building.

Call Joe Silman @ 452.4726.

Our bathroom was gutted completely and redone, just like you are looking to do!

would you be willing to offer the amount you paid for that?

I'm trying to get a ballpark estimate for the same thing.

Hmmm, We do have a small bathroom, and I shouldn't say completely gutted - we left the tub in and just Bath-Fittered it.

I want to say that new floor, drywall, toilet and cabinets came out to just over a grand? $1300-$1500 perhaps.... They also added a closet...

This was in early 2009....

Oh, and the Bath-Fitting was extra. I think that alone came out to another $1500.

BTW, I HIGHLY recommend bath fitter. We got the bath, and walls and ceiling of the shower covered in Acrylic and it cleans ridiculously easy and stays a brilliant white. The tub was done in 2004 and still looks great. The walls were done after the fact in 2009.

Way cheaper, easier, and faster than pulling a tub out. Cleans easier than any tiles I've experienced.

The only bad part was the guy who installed the tub in 04 kept going on about how Hitler had some good ideas. I was told that he'd been fired. (Probably after he did the Asper's bathroom.Wink )

hmm...sounds about right...

i had a company come in, and they estimated it just over $10k (RIDICULOUS).

I can gut the thing myself...that's easy...

I could actually do ALL the work myself...but I would rather hire someone for the "finishing" portion of it...and I've never actually put a tub in before (ours is shot)...so that would take a bit of doing.

It's not a big bathroom either (about 7' x 9')...and I want to put a pocket-door in to conserve some space (something else I've never done).

Ah!

I also did my own demolition, which was ridiculously fun and easy. So that's not factored into the cost I quoted above.

Geez, the truth comes out slowly. Wink

$1500 for a tub liner is ridiculous IMHO.....you can put in a new jetted tub and tile yourself for that cost. The only reason to go with Bath-fitter is if you only have one bathroom and can't afford to have it out of service for a couple of weeks. A proper gutting and remodel can be done for $3-5k if you DIY, if you hire a contractor to gut and remodel then $7-10k is to be expected. I've done a few guttings for friends and family and replacing the tub is probably the easiest part other than the demo. Way more tedious to lay tile and grout than replace a tub...not to mention drywalling/taping, god I hate taping.

You could call Kent Walters at 228 3119- He saved my bacon getting things done at my house this spring and summer.
I have had him doing work for me over 20 years , both at my store, and at clients homes as well.
I know he is busy, but I think everyone is.

Well, a tub liner is good if your existing tub is in good shape, and all you really want to do is cover up some ugly tiles/walls.

If you have mould or your tub is sinking/cracking...then the liner isn't going to last long, and may just cover a bigger problem.

In my case though, the tub is almost shot...and in redoing the bathroom, I want to move it...so I have to build a new frame for it and relocate it...which is probably the easy part.

I'd just be concerned I'd miss a crosspiece somewhere, and climb in a tub full of water and end up sitting in the kitchen.
