nope

the "flood" was caused by nature

The flooding of grand pointe was caused by operation of the floodway gates in an "illegal" manner

I've heard that trying to get ANY money for insurance claims due to flood is next to impossible. Has anyone had any GOOD experiences with flooding and insurance?

I've heard nothing but horror stories.

I've never been flooded so I dont know.

My sisters have both had flooded basements more then once and never had any problems, other then bickering about what something was worth.

in one case they had purchased a side of beef not long before and it was lost when the freezer got flooded. They threw it out before the insurance adjuster arrived ..duh.. rancid meet who wants that around... and they had to argue to get the full value because it was "unknown" how much they consumed.

You just have to make sure you are properly covered.

Most home policies require additional riders for sewer backup and overland flooding.

I pay an extra $60/year for $50,000 in coverage for both.

LOL.. government flood prediction came out.

basically.. umm highly probably that it will be at least 2009 level...MAYBE MIGHT hit 1997 level.

Why the secrecy? Why not admit we are already at flood stage. That the interlake is still sitting on flood water that never drained in the fall and simply froze? Why not admit that the potential exists for a greater then 1997 flood?

I live in the flood bulls-eye - on the Red River 8 miles south of Wpg (a few miles south of the Floodway Gate. All the Moon's are aligned for hitting or exceeding 1997 water level. The river froze at a level we've never seen before. We've never had 5 foot snow-banks in the yard - and we have the two snowy-months ahead of us still (Feb and March). Our sense is that people will forget about 1997 after this event. We're already packing because insurance doesn't cover contents - we're expected to move things up or out.

You may be right about it being worse than '97.

In a worst-case scenario, the Red will rise to 25 feet above normal winter ice levels at the James Avenue monitoring station, half a foot above the peak 1997 flood level.

Plus, now we have the Assiniboine to worry about. (Woodhaven could be totally screwed this spring.)

Can we make this the LAST time we build sandbag dikes around these homes?

Please?

As in. Once the flood is over we make the dike permanent. Any home owner who says no, gets diked BEHIND the next time so that the rest of the city is protected and they are not.

Is this unreasonable?

They did that on Victoria Crescent.

Some of the dykes are 20' feet from the backdoors....it really effed-up the views of the river....now there's a view of a grassy hill.

I reckon 'river property' ain't what it used to be.

Just hoping I don't get evacuated again.

I know it is precautionary, but if my house floods, the whole south end of the city is gone!

River properties should never have been allowed to have been privately developed.

It should have remained public green space for bike pathways and parks like it is in Calgary.

That would have taken some serious balls on the part of the managers of the forts 300 years ago to tell people up and down the river that they could not build there.

I grew up in Wolseley/Maples... everything south of the Assiniboine and east of Lag might as well be outer space.

Nothing of any importance in either place.

Close, but instead of describing east of Lag as outer space, the more appropriate term might be:

"The dog sh1t I scrape off the bottom of my shoe!"
