What we need and will get is a political and financial reset. Watch it happen in the USA and around the world this year. We'll see something similar.

We will get used to it, like everything else that we have no control over!
Perhaps we will drive a little bit less, perhaps we will start siphoning gas from your neighbours 4 cars? (my solution)

There'll be more need for MLCC car-pooling.

Being that Alberta oil extraction breaks even at 85 bucks, I think they should freeze the price of domestic gas at a certain price level, while being able to export the oil at world market prices. There is no excuse for Canadians to pay higher gas prices for Canadian oil.
Start a petition!

Interesting watching the news on this subject the other night.

According to Global's "expert", we will be at $1.50 per litre within 2 months and it won't go down for quite some time.

According to CTV & CBC's "experts" we are looking $1.20 tops, and it should drop after a short period.

Also, they talked about " the summer driving season". Funny, I would think that any increased driving would be offset by a) reduced driving for commuting and b) reduced driving for seasonal employees (Educators and Students)

Going to be a summer of discontent if it hits 1.50

US housing market at a standstill, millions unemployed since peak oil prices 2 years ago, Economies around the wrold in same condition as the US....And they tell me the price isn't fixed.

I was stunned at pricing in mexico. I was floored by pricing up North. Today at Sobeys I noticed the price of bread and veggies had ramped up since I left town a month agao. This is not going to be sustainable.

And to think these spikes are coming at a time when unions are negotiating with governments and we are planning a bipole 3.....yikes, its going to be expensive.( and all thanks to the rising price of oil, nothing else )

So Greenspan feared inflation due to a labor shortage suggesting a strong economy ( gogo days of Internet era ), are we going to get inflation with high unemployment suggesting thats the rules of economics simply don't work.

Oh by the way, greenspan was wrong.

For all the reasons you've mentioned above Liv, no one in their right mind should be accepting a wage freeze at this time. Inflation is going through the roof and is FAR higher than the official Stats Can numbers which don't include housing. The true rate of inflation is probably 5-10% higher once you factor in housing. How is it that anyone could even consider a wage freeze at this point? Things are only going to get worse at this point. I too have been watching EVERYTHING atthe grocery store steadily climbing.

Yes , the CPI numbers always provided a false value. Whats the point of measuring something if you take out values which affect you the most.

You'd think economists would have spent the last 2 years revising their text books in the face of a massive failure and a rigged stock market ( which affects commodities )

Meh. I drive a fleet car, and my gas is paid for my work. Unless work tells me to change my driving habits, which they won't, not much will go on. It would, however, impact travel decisions if fuel surcharges on flying bugger up ticket pricing. I would be less apt to give the airline my first born to take a quicky trip to Mexico if they passed down the costs to me.

On that note, I did buy a co-op membership two weeks ago, because I'd like some dividends on the skyrocketing price of gas. $5 gets you in, and they were giving 5% returns in 2010.

5%, wasn't it 7.5%?

And that was down from the 11% and 12% in previous years.

I'd just be more disciplined ( which I want to be anyway) on commuting to work by bike.

on March 17.

Aint March 17 some sort of sorta special day? One where perhaps some people might be doing something else?

Now why would they schedule the AGM for that day? Do they really hate the Irish that much?

All the more reason the oil industry should be nationalized in Canada, lower prices for Canadian's first and huge revenue potential from outside exports. There's no reason to be paying market prices in Canada when we are a net exporter of oil. Gasoline should be sold to Canadian's at the net cost of refining, and sold at market prices to outside markets. Total win-win for everyone but the oil companies.

Just think of the tax breaks that could be brought on for both individuals and business's if all the oil profits went into government revenue rather than private oil company profits. Seems to work for the Saudi's where citizen's receive a payout from the government rather than the other way around.

But that's too commie of an idea for you guy's I know.......
