I reckon the sales are flat on the bonds. Why would anybody buy them with a law suit stopping the deal in the process?

It would be difficult to compare the economics of today's NHL to that of the 80's or early 90's. My guesstimate would be that 30 million of todays dollars would be roughly equivalent to about ONE million loss or much less of yesteryears Jets.

That's what Goldwater is counting on.

Note the city of Glendale is still on the hook for $47 million should Hulzinger abscond with the team or the team dies on the vine.

I dont get this latest "ploy". Why not just buy the team himself or run bonds out himself?

It seems he doesn't have the money, remember Ice Edge, they are part of his group of partners

I don't buy that for a nanosecond.

Using your reckoning, if I had $100,000 in savings in say 1990 (cause I gotta at least pick a year) it would be worth $3,000,000 today?

I do have some money to invest. Can you find me an ROI like this for me? Smile

Has anyone read the letter that MH sent to GWI on Friday? That letter is proof at how much of a joke this whole situation is.

The man's grammar was horrid in that letter. Is that indicative of his business savvy? He should have had someone proofread it for him.

Here's a paragraph from the letter...

"Arizona Hockey is willing to modify the lease agreement with Glendale to guaranty [sic] to the city that they [sic] will receive direct revenues from the Coyotes, Arena and parking that have a value to day [sic] of at least $75 million. If the cumulative direct revenues received from the Coyotes, Arena and parking are that amount, than [sic] the shortfall will be the liability of Arizona Hockey Holdings."

The free press "name the team" survey leaves very little doubt about the name most fans want... At least based on this survey. Would a more scientific survey result in a different answer? Somehow I doubt it...

If the NHL returned to Winnipeg, what would you want the name of the team to be?
Jets 69%
Moose 4%
Chill 3%
Bears 1%
Falcons 7%
Other 12%

TOTAL VOTES: 11472

Give the people what they want....

Someone call up Mr. Shenkarow (assuming he owns the naming rights) and find out how much he'll want to allow us to re-call them the new Manitoba Jets...

Just don't do the "Baltamore-CFL-Colts" type thing...that's just lame.

The Jets owners couldn't have lost $30 million. They did not have that kind of money to lose. They sold The Jets for $85 million, when there was an agreement to sell for $55 Million? if the buyer was local.
At that time the salary was $16 million U.S., and they were forecasting $30 in the next few years. They had no income from executive boxes ?, beer sales, concessions, parking etc, etc, all things needed to make money.

Maybe it should be the Manitoba Jets, similar to the Saskachebush Roughriders to get the out of city support?
Great idea Grumpy!

" Aug. 15, 1995: Shenkarow announces that the Jets will be sold to
outside owners after one last season (1995-96) in Winnipeg. They bring
US$65 million, about C$100 million Cdn at the time. The province gets a
third, recovering what it paid to cover Jets' operating losses.
"

Funny I thought the losses were actually larger.
Does anyone remember if the city was also under-writing some losses?.
