I think he should win just because he was the first to say 13,000. BUT... Technically, he included the seats in the boxes in his guess. The 13,000 is single seats only and does not include box seats. Box seats number 1000...

Hmm, I wrote an earlier post and it's not on here, maybe I erased it by mistake, anyway, no need to get me lunch, it was quite well known that they were going to cap it at 13,000 (boxes not included since they are reconfiguring the seats and the actual number of boxes right now) so it really was not much of a prediction on my part!

So any bets on who will have the radio broadcasting rights for the Jets ( or whatever we call them ) games? I read some Toronto Sun article saying its down between Team 1290 and CJOB.

I've no doubt it is between those two. CJOB must be desparate to hold on to their mantle and the undisputed sports leader in Winnipeg. 1290 is trying to establish their station. What better instrument than NHL hockey.

I think it will be CJOB, they will stick with who has supported them in the past.

I think Sports Radio 1290 will take over as the team broadcaster.

The simple fact that the station is owned by TSN (and ESPN) gives it WAY more credibility as a sports broadcaster than CJOB. I suspect that once the Blue Bombers contract expires they will move over to 1290 as well.

As much as I detest that station, CJOB is a powerhouse.

There's a theory that 1290 was just set up to drive up the price CJOB will pay for the rights. I pray that isn't true.

Mark Chipman is said to be incredibly loyal to those who've worked with him in the past. Then there is the incredible legacy of local sports broadcasting that CJOB brings to the party. That has helped greatly in establishing a strong brand for CJOB.

That said, if the quality of Bomber broadcasters is an barometer perhaps CJOB needs to move on.

It's great that there are two strong candidates. That'll help drive up the price...

I hope it is not CJOB. The way they (and POWER 97 just to mention) have mocked those who believed that the NHL could one day return to Winnipeg was not only childish, but unprofessional in my opinion. Considering their past behavior, they do not deserve to be part of the new NHL broadcasting team.

CJOB can rot in hell....................................................1290 all the way!

I listen to Power 97 most mornings and have never heard them mock those who believed the NHL would return. Not sure where you get your info but I can assure you it is wrong.

Would love to hear Kurt Kielbach's voice back on the radio doing the games!!! At least his voice had some dramatics to it, not like listening to some of the American broadcasters, both TV and radio.

Keilbach is a great play by play man, would love for him to do that here. I think Mike Emrick is a great American Announcer for hockey, as well as Gary Thorne from the ESPN days.
Oh, on a side note, hope they do not bring back Wheeler for the in game announcing or at least for the 23 games that I will be going to

Wheeler...........................all he did want rant and rave about how "it's never going to happen, too small, too poor, people won't buy tickets, etc etc etc." I've heard it when I'm in town and many other can attest to this as well.

Now is the time when all the nay-saying media personnel **yeah I'm also looking at YOU Scott Taylor** should be taking a back seat to those who supported the initiative all along.

He crawls up from under his rock from time to time, just to say how big of a mistake the return of the NHL is to Winnipeg. On the last radio interview he made out in Ontario, it sounded like he was almost in tears when describing how much of a mistake it is for pro hockey to come back there. He makes me sick and is the WORST ambassador for the city that has ever existed.

He need to just disappear for good.

Power 97 definitely has mocked the return of the jets movement and regularly mocked Darren Ford for his website and efforts. Also Bob Irving on CJOB a couple years ago had a sports commentary where he basically said the Jets are never coming back and we should stop torturing ourselves and embrace the moose cause that's all we have and all we will ever have.

That being said I hope CJOB gets the broadcasting rights. 1290 is just horrible to listen to. Who cares about American college basketball?

I doubt that, Chipman is very loyal to the corporations and people that supported the Moose.

He was right, the Jets aren't coming back. The Jets are still in Phoenix, we have a new team not the one that left in the 90's.

I listen to power 97 almost every morning and I never heard them mocking the return of the NHL...because they didn't believe it would happen is not mocking anything. I didn't believe it would happen either...I'm glad it did. It's a great thing for Winnipeg.
