Re: ‘WRHA gravy train rolls on,’ Tom Brodbeck, July 4.

Tom Brodbeck asks why the WRHA has a VP for aboriginal health: “Do aboriginal people require different health care than people of other races?”

As a matter of fact, here in Manitoba, we do. We suffer higher rates of TB, diabetes, H1N1, MRSA and infant mortality to name a few. Poverty and lack of preventative health care in our communities means our people are flown to Winnipeg for care. First Nations, Metis and Inuit make up 60-65% of the patients at the Health Sciences Centre. Many must use the emergency room in the absence of adequate primary health care in their home communities.

During the Brian Sinclair case, First Nation leadership advocated for better representation at the senior management level of the WRHA. Dr. Catherine Cook has years of experience, is professionally trained and provides a strong voice to ensure our people’s needs are put forward and addressed here in Winnipeg.

GRAND CHIEF RON EVANS

ASSEMBLY OF MANITOBA CHIEFS

This is typical rhetoric of the chiefs. They always want something different for their people. What is acceptable to 95% of the population is not always acceptable for the chiefs. This "special" medical group is one example.

Another is the reserve up Thompson way not happy with the flood in their backyard. Blockade until we get our way! Completely ignoring the sacrifices, and extreme hard work, communities all over this province have endured for months on end.

If chief ron evans wants to be received better from the rest of the community he needs to end the "please sir may I have more" pleas and replace it with a "we have tried to solve the problems ourselves" philosophy.

YOUR PEOPLE'S needs are the same as mine at the hospital. Quality health care.

Or should your health care be better? Is that what you are suggesting?

AND for the record...
" We suffer higher rates of TB, diabetes, H1N1, MRSA and infant mortality to name a few."

That is 100% your fault MR Evans. Quit pissing the money you get away and start using it with a brain.

Hospital srvices are woefully slow for non life threatening procedures and also for diagnostics for some procedures that could be life threatening!
No one should have to wait 3 months for cancer screening tests, where the cancer COULD be growing!
Our hospitals should be able to send the patiet out to the USA and arrange a wholesale cost to the system. The problem could be that our system does not assign any costs to the procedures?

That very well could be rosie. Or something similar in that we dont overall consider what our inhouse cost is. Even though it is all paid for.

IMO, the problem is the machine is already paid for and the employees get paid the same whether they are actually doing tests or doing other functions.

And why aren't the highly paid managers making sure those expensive machines are running 7 x 24?

(I can't imagine anyone would have any person would have any problem going in for a test at 3:00 am instead of waiting 7 or 9 or even 1 month for a test if he/she wanted confirmation if they had cancer.)

Indeed there is no logical reason to have the amount of equipment we have if it is not being sued 24 hours

Could it be because there are two or three appointed supervisors/managers/directors/CEOs etc per regular employee, who don't really know how to do anything?

My guess is staffing and funding. Either there isn't the trained staff
(because the schools are not getting through enough grads) or because
the department isn't funded for those hours (budget for extra staff)
either way its the fault of the NDP and possably the unions. (and yes I
know as a unionized hospital worker my union would not like me taking
that stance but hey, it is what it is.)

And while they (VPs) are in fact good salaries, I don't get how people think those VP numbers are astronomical? If you're a north-ender working at mcdicks then yeah I suppose those are really high, but whats a lawyer bring in these days? couple hundred a year? MD, makes more than those VP's and many are MD's so in a sense they're probably not making their full potential. But if your driving taxi or working at the mall food court, yeah I suppose they're high salaries. Should we be paying 40k a year to run our system?

Nope, just hate to see people do well for themselves at the expense of others. Given that our current financial system ensures that to create wealth for oneself means to create debt for someone else (since all new money is created out of debt and only out of debt), the only way anyone can get rich is for someone else to become indebted. "Doing well for oneself" simply means that you are doing a better job of getting bigger piece of the pie while someone else get's none and infact owes another piece to someone else. In the long run the only possible outcome is an ever increasing debt which can only grow faster than any possible increase in new wealth.

Have you never wondered why the total amount of world debt is increasing at a far greater pace than GDP? Because that is the only possible outcome when to create any new money one must do so by creating debt plus interest. Interest that can NEVER be repayed since the new money supply will always be less than this sum. The only possible long term prospect is total global economic collapse. We are just starting to see the repurcusions of a financial system controlled by private bankers who are the only source of "new" money. The Greek people so far are the only ones who have been willing to stand up and see this shell game for what it is.

Think about that the next time you admire everyone around you "doing well", it's because someone else somewhere is in debt up to their eyeballs. It's nothing but a rat race where everyone is trying to get a bigger piece of cheese while they can. The system is desgined to favour those that already have aquired wealth, at the expense of others.

It's also the truth GOM, I hate it as much as you do. More people need to wake up and realise that money = debt plus interest. There is no other way with our current system. There was no pompousness intended. It's just a fact that the way our finacial system is structured the only way for anyone (individual, corporation or even government) to gain wealth is for someone else to gain debt. We're all just fighting for a bigger share than someone else, the fact that we dont see the person losing their home (real property to pay for imaginary debt) or the company going bankrupt and having their assests seized by the bank doesn't mean it isn't happening. It's the only way for you or I to increase our personal wealth, or for other companies to grow.

The problem is we've reached the point in the curve where the debt is flying through the roof at an ever increasing pace, and the only possible outcome is millions losing their homes and property.

I can't speak for all commie bastards, so speaking only for myself this is the problem I have in seeing others "do well". I know that it's all an illusion and that for every new millionaire created there are hundred's or even thousand's of people losing everything they have. No fault of the millionaire personally, he's just playing the game as best as he can. My problem is with the game.

The system is completely broken. As long as economies are growing and inflation is rising we can keep the debt problem hidden, but like anyone knows in the long term the only consequence of borrowing money to pay of money you owe is bankruptcy. That's what we're seeing right now with the world economy. More people should be alarmed by this.

Sorry, way off topic I went way off topic on a tangent.

I have never heard of that economic theory, what is it called? I always thought that through the efforts of labour value is generated in the form of products and services, and it is the demand for the supply of these products and services that creates wealth and economic growth. Debt only becomes relevant if you need capital in addition to your labour to create value.

Wrong eviltroll. There is not a single dollar created that is not debt. There is no other way with a fractional reserve banking system. Every single piece of paper in your wallet is nothing but debt (plus interest) that someone else has assumed. Plenty of information if one is willing to look for it. I'd start with Zeitgeist as it contains a fairly good explanation of the fractional reserve banking system in the US and how money(debt) is actually created.

What you describe is true wealth, the value of goods and services created. This does not equate into monetary wealth. Monetary wealth is an illusion as it is nothing but (ever expanding) debt. Untill we move away from a fractional reserve system run by private banks the only inevitable outcome is world economic collapse. Government has given up the power to create new money, all new money is created by private interests and loaned back to us with interest.

Again, way off tangent.

They cannot staff the machines longer because money has to go to roof gardening instead.

I'll venture to say that they spend more on advertising than on emerg doctors. That's the way they do things.
