Dr. Nicole Rosen, associate professor at the University of Lethbridge’s department of modern languages,

Rosen, who grew up in Winnipeg, first noticed a difference in the way Prairie-dwellers speak when she began teaching at the U of L in 2004.

She has also studied sofa/couch/chesterfield pronunciations. Very intelligent young lady...

You prairie folk DO sound different to me, but only subtle words here and there, and you have to be listening, because it isn't like Newfish or Fargo accenting.

The first word pronunciation that struck me was FILM. People from MB don't say it the way people from BC do.

I find Ontarians sound vastly different than BC people and prairie people.

Harper probably has $2,000,000 for this study , which will include why Alberta wives don't listen to their husbands!

So, your saying it's shopping at Giant 'Tag-ger', and not Giant 'Tie-ger'?

How about the batteries in your remote? Is is 'bat-tree' or is it 'batter-ree'?

How about fuel for your car/truck? Is that 'gaz' or 'gaz-oleen' or possibly or just 'gass' or 'gass-oleen'?

Nobody mentions the french/english dialect....such words as the number 3 are pronounced two different ways around here....such as 'T-ree' vs. 'TH-ree'

There's plenty more I'm sure!

Rolling Eyes

Just yet another attempt at almighty Alberta to try and distinguish itself from the rest of Canada, because we are sooo much different out here.

Just remember that being able to tell where you grew up through your voice is very important when you try to cross over provincial boundaries! lol
