I am totally okay with this...
Defence Minister Peter MacKay said Tuesday his government has corrected a historic mistake by restoring the "royal" designation to the air force and navy, a move he says will come at a minimal cost.

It seems we are still fixing Trudeau's messes eh.

Good on MacKay for this change.

Is it the Royal Canadian Army now?

Nope. Only the RCN and RCAF.

Many regiments in the Army have earned the "Royal" prefix and have been using them in spite of unification. The Royal Canadian Regiment, Royal Canadian Artillery, Royal 22nd Regiment, Royal Winnipeg Rifles, Royal Canadian Engineers.

Wonder if support arms will start using their previous monikers, Royal Canadian Army Service, Royal Canadian Electrical and Mechanical Engineers, and so on.

I feel that I can safely say that few, if any of the soldiers that I have known really would care one way or the other at all about this issue, yes I know there has to be some die hard old timers that will argue this.
Just seems to me like it would be a good time to start a printing company in Ottawa, imagine all the new letterhead, posters, ect that will have to be created. The military is notorious for changing the names of things that don't need to be changed, almost as if someone feels they need to leave their mark on something.

I honestly don't think there is a tremendous amount of stationary that was branch specific, most military correspondence that I've ever seen or drafted has been on DND letterhead which isn't changing.

I think many people are making more out of this than there really is.

Of course the NDP has their noses all out of joint over it.

of course they do.. their number one area is Quebec and Quebec is also the number 1 royal hate area. Politicians do what their voters expect of them

The people of Quebec need to get over it already, the Brits kicked their a$$ a long time ago, and out of the graciousness of the monarchy at the time, didn't deport all the french out of their territory.

Tired of their BS.

Certainly the Royal 22 Regiment (Van Doos) has gotten over it I reckon. Smile

Hopefully, Harper will kill off multiculturalism next and the wasteful Human Rights Commission.

The general consensus amongst the other infantry regiments is that the Van Doos are out to lunch.

Cross your fingers. Both are a complete waste of taxpayers' money.

They seem to have had a reputation since the second WW of being "out there".
