What are the real ones going to be selling for?

My son went online and ordered one that came in from China and it sure looked good at $40?

Does anyone know why the Jets don't buy locally??

The ones made in China were based on a fan's design posted to hfboards.com. I guess the counterfitters thought it was the real thing and made a bunch based on that version. Whoops! If your son wants a sweater like the ones the Jets wear on the ice, he's going to have to shell money out again! Plus, a lot of people aren't going to look to kindly on people wearing those jerseys.

The legit ones will sell for just over $100 like every other NHL jersey. ($110 was the price I last paid for a jersey a few years ago - it may be over $120 now).

I encourage you to buy it at the Jets store at the arena so the team gets the profits.

As for buying locally, do you mean having Peter Nygard or Western Glove make the jerseys? The NHL signed an agreement with Reebok to do all the jerseys. I can respect that. It's better to have all the jerseys standardized rather than 30 different manufacturers.

Actually, River City Sports is accepting pre-orders for jerseys at $129.99.

true North announced two versions - an "original" and a "replica". I assume there will be a substantial difference in prices, which one is for around $100?

I think the terms is Replica ($110~) and Authentic ($300~?).

Authentics have the fighting strap, and I think the logo's are a bit larger as well.

$119 and $269 respectively ($59 extra for a name and number on it).

Here is a page that shows the differences between the two.

Regardless. I feel sorry for the people that got suckered into buying a fake Chinese jersey. They are going to look like complete idiots if they wear it out in public.

I'm sure that the NHL/Reebok is making a KILLING on these @ $119 based on what they cost to produce. That being said I don't support anyone buying knock off Chinese counterfeits. We lost the Jets once before, and I don't want anyone making money off the team other than the NHL so we can prove we're able to support a team.

And Dean, you'd be surprised - unless you're message board surfers like us, a lot of people assumed those WERE the jerseys. A relative wondered why I was getting so excited during the news yesterday when they announced the jerseys would be revealed on Tuesday. "They did that already! I don't see why this is NEWS!", he said.

Reebok is likely making more than they normally would for "a specific quality sweater". However, I suspect the NHL and the Jets are making the bulk of the profits. As it should be.

FWIW Mantha I completely agree - let the profits flow where they belong.

Profits from the sale of NHL licensed goods is divided equally among the teams in the league.

The Jets will make just as much money from the sale of a Jets jersey as they will from the sale of an Oilers jersey.

But if you buy at the Jets store, the team gets some money.

And if you don't, at least buy from River City, Royal Sports, or my own personal favourite, Uptown Sports in the Portage Place Skywalk! That way the money is supporting local business.

Ordering from China? Don't they have enough money flowing from North America as it is? You should be ashamed of yourselves. Wink

That's hardly fair! So every year the Jets sell $1,000,000 worth of goods they give up some of their profit to the bottom-feeding teams that sell considerably less?

The league owns the trademark, not the team or ownership group.

As Mantha said earlier, the only raw profits the team (or specifically TNSE) makes is from sales at their own team store at the MTS Centre and even then the profits directed towards the league get divvied up accordingly.

See... but that is one of the things that made the owners vote overwhelmingly to let the sale happen.

They realized that instead of an underperforming team cutting into the profits of everyone, they would get an OVERperforming team bringing everyone more money.. like a seriously ridiculous amount more money

Yeah.

Hanging right in their window.

Crappy screen printing on a Gildan t-shirt.

Who knows what else of theirs is fake.

From my son's perspective, it isn't the money, it is the availability, I think? He has 2 season tickets.

My son supports the Bombers and the Jets.

While working in Regina last month he tried to get into a drinking whole wearing a Bomber sweater, and was refused entry! He is lucky that the bouncers saw what he was wearing!

Still doesn't change the fact that he's going to stick out like a sore thumb while he's walking around town wearing an obviously fake jersey.

quite honestly...i don't think MOST people care if it's fake or not.

Just like people who buy Canadian flags at Dollarama vs. ordering from an "official" flag making company here in Canada...

you are supporting the SYMBOL of the jets by wearing their logo around and advertising that you are a fan. just because you aren't willing (or don't have) more than $100 to spend on an "authentic" jersey, doesn't make you less of a fan...just makes you a more frugal one.
