It takes a caring person to run for office!

Maybe also a little crazy? But I am not the right person to judge that trait! lol

Way to go DeanK!!!

I agree. It takes courage to run for office. Many many loons out there to deal with. Family and job sacrifices.

No matter the results Dean, good on you for going there...

Your thread title doesn't make sense, gramatically speaking.

An illegal donation? I don't think there would be a law covering a breakfast or lunch! You are on the wrong page? Then I will pick up the bill and run out? lol

Yep, takes to guts to run, especially when your chances of getting elected are pretty slim.

Most of us wouldn't run if we thought we had little chance of winning.

What was your motivation for running?

effect change
generate discussion
give voters an option with merit and new ideas

I cant find my 2006 council run pamphlet anywhere but by time the 2010 civic election came around 7 of my ideas had been implemented at the city or provincial level.

Did you run in the Provincial election? I totally missed this. Entirely. Good for you!

He ran for the Green Party and scored 249 votes. Given the growing irrelevance of the Liberals, and with young people not feeling beholden to the main parties, the Greens should get more popular.

Not unless they get louder, and get with the program way earlier. It was several weeks into the campaign before their website was updated with the platform, before that all you saw was last elections stuff from 2007. It also took a long time for links and info on candidates to appear. I got no literature from the greens either. I respect their premise for existing, but if they want to be more popular in this day and age, even an online page can go a long way - the lack of an online presence turns voters away.

But yes, I have a lot of respect for anyone who runs for office - putting words into practice. Good for you for running, Dean!

Lot of anything today is all related to getting tax dollars to be able to afford anything! Other than that, it boils down to volunteers.

The Liberals , down to 1 seat lose any and all money set up for the big bonus of having 2 seats. What $$ that means I don't know.

Being a fringe party years ago, the federal Green's became a real party when they got around $2,000,000 because they got 1,000,000 votes. That allowed them to hire permanent staff, and get around to make speaches , attend funcyions, and now they have 1 seat.

Quite an accomplishment to be able to ake a start and not rely on your own money!

DeanK, how was fund raising ? Pretty tough , right!

Why don't you post the Green's full platform?

I never saw any literature where I am!

They got less than 100 votes per constituency so they'll have to work a bit harder.

There should be only 2 parties allowed to run for Federal or provincial seats except im Quebec where 4 should be allowed!
