I don't think there have been any comments about excess hours...

Just out of curiosity:
Whose fault is it that the nurses are working 12 hours a day anyway?

Why are you asking me? I am not a nurse.

But do you like to dress up like a nurse?Cool

Perhaps I miss-understood the comment from the article:
I got the impression the nurses were used to working 12 hour shifts and did not want to be on-call.

From the newspaper article:
"Then there was the prospect of being on call when they were used to
working three shifts a week. "You're used to working part-time, not
having to come in in the middle of the night... So that's a huge
change," Mowat said."

I can understand not being enthusiastic about being called out after a person has worked a 12 hour shift.

If you prefer nurses to be slaves, we can cease to have people with bachelors degrees and masters degrees inserting your IV and calculating your drip meds. There are plenty of barely literate people who'd be glad to do cardiac cathaterization on your child, unsupervised, for $2 an hour and no days off. Why not just pull the janitor? It's just a$$ wiping.

My a$$-wiping mother, who runs an ER unit has a Masters' Degree.
I took 3 of my 4 years of an RN before the politics pissed me off and I bailed.

Wiping asses. Holy frick.

You must have RNs mixed up with nurses aides and LPNs.

How is the politics is the medical system any different than the politics in any other job?
Thanks

Heh heh... Nursing is primarily a woman's world. Politics and women? Yikes!!!

If someone is mentally or physically suffering because of their job, they have every right to put themselves first and leave to look for another job elsewhere. They should not be made to feel guilty for looking out for #1 for a change.

I feel confident in assuring you that the average RN has a lot more hoops to jump through with compliance, documentation, safety, union issues, workplace policy adherance, patient care and competency than your average Starbucks server or web designer does. I mean, really. Is that actually a legitimate question? I have managed large sales territories and budgets in the millions, with scores of employees with high targets, and never once was it anywhere near as stressful as working a rotation on a locked psych ward or worse, acute care. Nor do I get hit, kicked, bit, spit at, sh1t on, thrown up on, accidently stuck with needles.

I hear ya, Sour. My mother is a nurse, and I have SEEN the abuse she puts up with first hand as an RN. It is NOT just a job like many people tend to think. If they truly have no idea the kind of crap nurses have to put up with, they would not make comments like that in the first place.

Sounds like the week we brought the boys home from the hospital.
