the worshippers of the Tar go to the polls today.

Who will sit on top? Will it be a minority?

I think we can all safely say the NDP won't be a factor?

Wild Rose party sweep?

I dunno.. with 37 different right wing parties and 12 independent running.. the vote is bound to split somewhere no?

There are really only two viable right-wing parties (Con/WR) and are three "non-right" parties (NDP/Lib/Green).

The problem is that a lot of the rural ridings in the past have gone to the Conservatives with more than 60% of the popular vote with the remainder being split pretty evenly among the rest. It would take a sheer miracle for a lefty to win in rural Alberta.

Edmonton and Calgary already have their fair share of lefty seats. Some of them actually came already due to a Con/WR split. So the cities could be in for a bit of a change depending on how things go. That said, the splits in 2008 might just get more right-wing folks out to the polls. Alberta elections generally have HORRIBLE participation.

Being a con-basher in Alberta is like being a vegan in a steakhouse.

I'm talking about the local con-bashers. Imagine their indignation that the cons got reelected despite their many protestations that the cons are evil.

So, in Alberta, the right wing increase their foothold (61 Cons & 17 Wild Rose for 77 seats vs the 72 previously held by the Cons), the Liberals lose ground by 14 seats(nothing new) and the No Damn Progress party gains 2. In Saskatchewan, the Saskatchewan Party owns the province for the next 4 years.

Yet, for some reason known only to God and socialists, we end up with a go nowhere, do nothing bunch of left wingers for the next 4 years. WTF?

Its simple

You vote for who you work for. (or who pays you not to work)

Manitoba's driving economy is government projects and/or funded work.

What is Wild Rose, and how come I hear nothing about them until after the election?

The NDP managed to get 4 seats, and won back their Offical Party Status. My initial response was "WTF? There is an NDP party in AB?"

The Liberals were decimated. Clearly all of the Liberal voters jumped on the PC wagon to keep Wildrose from getting the seats the media said they'd get. They had a 20% undecided going into the election, and clearly those people went red tory and kept Redford and the PC party in.
