Figured I would mention it here because, well, you never know...

I need some used handguns. Or the name / number of someone who can find me some used handguns.

They are to make up a training kit for me to teach the Canadian Restricted Firearms Safety Course, and as such, they will be disabled and permanently ruined. The firing pin will be removed or cut, the barrel and receiver will both have slots or holes cut into them, effectively making sure that the gun will never fire a bullet again.

So thats why i'm looking for some used guns, as i'd rather not buy brand new ones from the store and then have to wreck them.

I currently am looking for any type of handgun, whether its revolver or semi-auto.
Any calibre
Any brand
the barrel can be burst or bulged, the frame can have pieces missing, whatever.

The only requirement is that the action of the gun works, and can cycle bullets through.
Thanks.

Submit a formal request to the RCMP.

They have a collection of guns, and if you present a request/proposal, they may actually give you the guns for instructional purposes.

Be prepared to show ID and go through a background check though.

Where in Winnipeg can you practice firing hand guns? I've been thinking about doing some pistol shooting.

You are going to use them to teach the course, then you would get them from the CFA no or the goverment as transport becomes a problem .

Check out the Merchant's Hotel on Selkirk. Maybe RC can give you a lift and take you on a tour of the North End while you're up there.

I thought you had to have your guns locked up at the range and could not transport them in your vehicle . Just wondering as I have a possesion only , and keep it at the lake, Shotgun .

You can get permits for anything (transport, possession) I believe anything except concealment.

A friend of mine has permits to transport & carry handguns, rifles, shotguns, etc.

It really depends on how much you want to spend, and how much of a "background check" you want.

You can actually be authorized to carry a concealed weapon in Canada.

According to my friend (so I'm relaying what he told me), you're not able to get authorized for "concealed weapons" unless you're a police officer, security officer, or special agent (like a private eye).

We're not talking about wearing a gun on your hip...it means a holster hidden from view by design (ie. under the arm, behind the back, on the ankle).

Its not an easy task but anyone in Canada can get approved for carrying a concealed handgun. You must submit substanial proof that it is required and its not easy to get at all.

Like 5 cases in the last 20 years or so.... that not easy.

Meet me at the Renfrew Apartments, 465 Mountain Avenue, that was my home adress a few years ago, before I got my visa papers to move to Wellington Crescent!
That will bring us into the danger zone, and we can visit ralph Brown Community Centre and Northender, on a Saturday maybe , in the afternoon.
Lots of good memories there, when it was completely safe, except for my rock throwing incident in the back lane with the Zuks.

just to clarify, no i can not get them from the RCMP, or the Winnipeg Police, or the Cheif Firearms Officer, or anything like that. Trust me I have contacts in all 3 and i've tried very hard.

As of october 31'st regulations have changed so that no public agency can sell or give firearms to private citizens even for instructional purposes. Any guns seized by police get destroyed, and there is some really nice stuff that goes to the smelter, the WPS could raise tens of thousands of dollars for thier department if they sold seized weapons to legitimate, registered owners at a reasonable price... but i digress.

The place i work, as a government agency, could purchase them but then they would be registered under the business license and not in my name, so i would not be able to transport them anywhere for teaching purposes.

Its really frustrating and stupid, because they want people to teach these courses, and they put on training sessions to teach us how to teach these courses, but they are not allowed to provide us with the neccessary instructional equipment.

It is up to each instructor now to acquire thier own training kits. Which means shelling out over a grand on brand new guns just to wreck them, or finding someone somewhere who has some used stuff to sell.

pretty crappy deal for us instructors if you ask me.

for the person who was asking about ranges in winnipeg, i just went to one on monday as to try out new guns for my work, and it was a really good facility. I beleive it is the Firing Line

The address is 439 Turenne, which runs between Dugald rd and Marion, west of lagimodiere. One of the guys who runs it and my instructor for the day was a man named Sheldon Stoller.
Sheldon is a really good guy, very experienced and very easy to learn from, he will set you up. The facility is top notch and they have a fairly large number of members and host a lot of activities and events there.
