Well the Brandon Wheat Kings have been playing some excellent hockey as of late. They are in 3rd place in the Western Conference of the WHL. Since the owners of the MTS Centre have blocked all attempts to bring junior hockey to Winnipeg, I cheer on the Wheaties. Last night they destroyed the Moose Jaw Warriors 6-1.

Schenn's goal, assist lift Brandon to 6-1 win over Moose Jaw

The Brandon Wheat Kings don't mind facing divisional opponents — except for maybe the Saskatoon Blades.
Brayden Schenn had one of three first-period goals and later added an assist as Brandon throttled the Moose Jaw Warriors 6-1 in Western Hockey League action Friday night.

The Wheat Kings (30-14-3-1) have faced East Division opponents in each of their last five games, and have posted a 4-1 record. Their only loss came Wednesday, when they were trounced 6-2 by the division-leading Blades.
Brandon bounced back from that disappointing effort with a dominant performance, outshooting the Warriors by a ridiculous 59-14 margin. The score would have been even more one-sided had it not been for the goaltending heroics of Jeff Bosch and Deven Dubyk, who stopped 54 shots in defeat for Moose Jaw.

Schenn, the younger brother of Toronto Maple Leafs defenceman Luke Schenn, scored a power-play goal - his 20th of the season - to give the Wheat Kings a 3-0 advantage through one period. He added an assist on Scott Glennie's 25th of the year as Brandon built its advantage to 5-0.
Schenn, who is eligible for this year's NHL draft, has four goals and 13 assists in 10 games in January, and has points in 20 of his last 24 games.

The Wheat Kings occasionally played some games in Winnipeg. How were those games attended?

Ironically the games were pretty well attended, until they moved from the old arena to the MTS Centre. I think the Wheaties were playing to crowds sometimes in excess of 7,000 during the days of the old arena. Since the MTS Centre opened, they have been lucky to draw 4,000.

It may have something to do with the AHL Moose and True North not wanting a WHL team as a tenant, but who knows....

they won again tonight too??? or was that just a news clip from Friday that I saw?

As to wheat kings in Winnipeg... yeah I was able to score some front row behind the players box tickets to a wheaties game a couple of years ago.. on the same day that the game was being held. so I dont know if that means that people just buy the cheaper ones, or that people just never went.

Just an update on the Wheaties. They finished the regular season at 48-19-5, good for 3rd place in the Conference. They swept the Kootenay Ice in the first round 4-0, and currently lead the Best of 7 Conference Semi Final 1-0 against the Medicine Hat Tigers!

Tonight is the beginning of the Conference Finals. Brandon Wheat Kings will play against the WHL Champion Calgary Hitmen (59-9-4). So far both teams have gone 8-0 during the playoffs. Brandon does not seem to be gettiing much respect, as most internet hockey fans are looking ahead to the WHL Finals, and to see who Calgaayr will play. Brandon has the better offense, but Calgary seems to have more depth in deffense and goaltending.
My prediction: Calgary in 6.

WHL Champion? Are they the defending champion? Is that what you mean?

2008-09 WHL Regular Season champions. The Spokane Chiefs were the defending champions, and they were just eliminated. Sorry for any confusion.
