no...most fences are 1' - 3' back so that when the plows come through, they don't knock your fence down.
and so when you open your car door parked by the curb, you don't hit the fence.

Technically, the city owns easement rights below and above all of your property in Winnipeg.
They also own easement rights on the first 10' from any public access roadway (ie. backlane/street)
Which is why they can come chop down the tree next to the street, but not the one in the middle of your yard.

For IG Guy...no...you can't rip up the sidewalk, but if you can tip it up without breaking it...that's legal. The sidewalk is city property...the land underneath is not.

I don't know if we have any real estate agents in our forum...but they should know for sure the measurements and details...it's part of the course.

Every fence I see in Winnipeg is built right up to the public sidewalk. Go look at the fences in Toronto. It is rare to see a fence built within that 1 or 3' buffer.

Oh...of the sidewalk?
I misread your post...I read it as to the roadway.

Though...I'd still argue about the snow clearing thing.
Someone probably started it on a street somewhere, and it became "tradition" to leave room to throw the snow.

yeah but in Winnipeg we use snowplows.. in Toronto they use tanks so have the fence 3 feet from the sidewalk actually makes sense...

It's all fixed, including a new water meter.
The guy was here when he said he would be and charged me a fraction of what some others would have.
Lead pipe repairs can run up to $450 (from a gouger) and the average is about $300. He charged me $130.

He repaired the leak in the lead. Installed a lead-to-brass fitting, a new shut-off valve, with the required cast-iron piping required.

The guy from the city said he did a good job and asked for his name to recommend him.
